KNOWLEDGE THROUGH IGNORANCE (ACCORDING TO SOCRATES)

Knowledge and Ignorance seem to be two opposite words. Ignorance can be a very uncomfortable spot to find ourselves, but taking a deep look at it, I think Ignorance and knowledge are two sides of the same coin.
Just as it's quite common for people to be ignorant of something, it's also possible for someone to know something that is totally false.
In fact, the latter is more dangerous. Truly, having a false knowledge is more toxic because it is backed by a fake belief system.

FALSE KNOWLEDGE

False knowledge might sound like a bogus paradox, but I believe it's possible. We each have our individual truths that we hold onto, but when we know a greater truth, we then look back and see that what we knew was false.
A better example; many scientific discoveries have made so many theories obsolete but those theories were considered factual knowledge in the past.

EMBRACING IGNORANCE

There are different kinds of ignorance; There is the Foolish ignorance which is carefree and doesn't want to learn.
There is the Invisible ignorance in which you simply do not know of your ignorance.

Embracing the right type of ignorance is when we open ourselves to learning new things, it's when you observe your current belief systems from a perspective that they might not be the whole truth.
It's simply saying to yourself "hey, I could be wrong".

PHILOSOPY OF SOCRATES

I believe Socrates was the most badass philosopher that ever lived. He definitely pulled the biggest social experiment in ancient Greece. In fact, all these fake pranksters on youtube got nothing on Socrates.

The story of Socrates simply goes like this; There was a widespread rumor that Socrates was the wisest man in the Land.
Socrates being fully aware of his potential ignorance went out and consulted with all the intellectuals in their different fields, He would ask them Intellectually simulating questions and when they answered he would basically just shit on what the person said and point out the logical fallacies.

He certainly pissed off a lot of people, they had the invincible ignorance, they just couldn't see their false knowledge or choose not to, and the frustrating thing for them was that if they asked SOCRATES the same question, he would simply reply "I don't know."
Socrates often referred to himself as a Gadfly, he didn't get along with so many intellectuals but he had a following. He was an unrepentant sceptic, he believed that no one can claim to know it all, irrespective of your field.

It wasn't long before charges were brought against him for corrupting the minds of the youth and defying the gods, his defense was documented in "The Apology of Socrates" written by his student Plato, apology, in this case, doesn't mean pleading. The previous meaning of "apology" is "defense".
Socrates defended himself till the end, even though he was asked to choose to denounce his philosophy or be sentenced to death.

He chose death, a badass to the end, he lived by his famous philosophy; "The only thing I know is that I know nothing".

I believe that true knowledge lies within the philosophy of Socrates. what do you think?

Thanks for reading.

Agree. Improve that for the next thanks @abmakko

thanks so much for sharing your knowlage

The only thing I know is that I know nothing, lol thanks for reading

This was well written out! I know a lot of people don't give philosophy it's due respeck but they should.

True that! they better put some respeck on it.

Very interesting. Hanging onto hard held "truths" once dispelled is never an easy task, if even possible for some people especially when you bring religion or politics into the equation.

Thanks for the feedback @chelsea88, that was one of my reasoning behind this article.

It is such an interesting post, I learned a lot from it. There is a famous saying in Spanish, "I only know that I do not know anything" "Solo sé que no sé nada" Good work, thanks for sharing it.

Exactly!

Great stuff, thanks!

There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don't know we don't know.
Donald Rumsfeld

Wow he actually went a step further (0:29) ><

Logically speaking, He is correct. even though I think ethically he's trying to justify his mistakes with ignorance or potential ignorance. This is what happens when a politician has a good grasp of philosophy and using it to derail interview questions. so at the end, no one even knows what they are talking about.
His intent wasn't to give a direct answer or resolution, especially when the reporter asked which type of unknown it is, he said: "I'm not going to say which it is". I've never heard of that man before but he gives me shady vibes. he's trying to hide something.
Thanks for passing by my page @pv-p

Haha you're quite right he is a shady person! He was secretary of defense to Bush Jr in the early 2000s. And he is being most unethical - he is trying to say that the army knew that Iraq had nuclear weapons, but that it was not yet proven, it was still an unknown, but one they 'knew' about (history proved that to be wrong).

While I agree with what you write, one of the most important things about knowledge is constructed. We're coming to a point where our reductionist ways of constructing knowledge are working against us. This includes the partitioning of how knowledge is built into neat disciplines with little cross-fertilisation. We lack the ability to bring different types of knowledge and build a more holistic picture of what we're dealing with (scientific propositions with ethical commitments, or economic knowledge with social understanding - in each case, the instrumental tendency of the former tends to prevail over the 'softer' knowledge of the latter). The way today's crises are so interwoven attests to how we've been missing the bigger picture, both individually and as a global society.

Luckily this is know becoming a known thing (haha) and interdisciplinary thought and practice is become more standard.

Just saw I hadn't followed you yet, done! :)

I agree with the melting pot way of knowledge, there is no one true way, it's all about looking at the bigger picture. thanks for the follow. following you back 😊
