Age definitely also play a role in a decrease of hearing, but this problem wouldn't happen at your age just yet in a normal circumstance. Or better to say..aging process of our organ wouldn't happen that early/fast without any special external influence.
So, the hearing problem that we suffer over the time at young age is mostly caused by an extreme external influence.
An accident is one of a possible cause, illness could be a cause, or in this case a damage caused by exposure of destructive things.
Destructive things don't have to be obviously noticeable by one's social awareness when it seems to be normal situation in that area, but when it happens constantly/continuously, it becomes silent danger that is doing the damage slowly over the time.
And when it comes to toddler..the hearing damage could even happen instantly depends on the severity of the exposure and at what age the severe incidents happened.
The hearing of a child is still developing or/and in the process of hardening as they grew up.
And if it does happen, it's irreversible.
That's why parent's awareness about this issue is really important, because at least they would know how to prevent the extreme damage if they could arrange some protection methode for their infants and toddler while being in any unavoidable circumstance.

I absolutely agree with you, my hearing problem is "mostly caused by an extreme external influence". (I found this problem a very long time ago.)
And I'm quite sure that you can protect your little princess from this problem very well. ;)
