The life of the people in an island is very simple and most of all peaceful. They are far away from the civilisation of the city which it is a good thing because it keeps the people from any bad influence that cause to be a bad habit.
The beauty of an island is very remarkable specially in our Island, Lipayran (Island part of Bantayan). The place where I was born and my Hometown which is endowed with rich waters and dotted with beautiful islands with white sand beaches. This is the place where I spend my childhood days and my happy moments with my father because I always with him when he went fishing.
In our island, specifically Lipayran island the people’s job to survive and to provide the needs of their family is by fishing. Yes, it is true because some of my uncle (father side is a fisherman). I live in an island for almost half of my existence and I must say it is very important memories I have.
If you say being a fisherman is an easy job because there is no RESUME, BIODATA, and REQUIREMENTS that need to be accepted and it is not a professional job, but don’t you know the struggle they experienced?
When they are fishing, they risk their lives. Swimming in a very depth sea just to catch fish with only limited oxygen comes from their body. The big waves like a three-story building that they fight along with their not so big boats. The heat comes from the sun that make them sick. The danger they possessed what if unexpected typhoon will come, a storm surge? What if their boat will drown in the area where no one can rescue them? A lot of dangers comes in the way to all fisherman but It is not their reason to stop fishing because they have their families that need to provide their daily needs and that's why I am very proud of them. The braveness that the Filipino really is.
But despite of that they are still smiling and happy of what they are doing. They are contented and enjoy in fishing because they found new family.
My father always told me, ‘The sea is very important to the people because it is free- from food such as sea foods and it must be taking care and preserved’. I really wonder what it was but as I grow up, I totally understand.
The fisherman are very important in the society because they are the one that provides fresh fish and other sea foods to the market which is also need by the people.
I really adore them, they show what a Filipino is, aside for being hospitable,the bravery and hardworking are the attitudes they possessed.
