Today I would like to share with you our last trip to "Little Boracay" in Batangas together with some good friends from the Philippines, Singapore and Kenya.

We rented a boat and then enjoyed the (in the afternoon still) bright blue sky and turquoise, crystal-clear water.

Even afterwards, when selecting the photos, I am still amazed by the colour of the water! :)

This house can only be reached by swimming. Dieses Haus ist nur schwimmend zu erreichen.

In the shallow water near the beach I found water snails, sea urchins and starfish.

This starfish is amazingly well camouflaged. Dieser Seestern ist verblüffend gut getarnt.

I took all the starfish shown below out of the water only briefly to show them to my daughter and teach her a little about these fascinating animals before releasing them back into their natural environment.

This 'chocolate chip sea star' (Protoreaster nodosus) impresses with its diameter of up to 40 cm and strong armour.

The feet of the starfish, which are equipped with suction cups at the tip and are used for locomotion, are clearly visible here.

Protoreaster nodosus lives predatorily on mussels, snails and other small animals. To open a mussel, the suction feet under its arms attach themselves to both shells of the mussel so that the starfish can pull them apart. As soon as the gap is large enough, the attacker pushes its stomach outwards and inserts it into the mussel to digest the soft tissue of the victim outside its body (extraoral digestion).

A very beautiful red shining variety of Protoreaster nodosus.

One of the many amazing characteristics of starfish is their ability to regenerate. A single severed arm can develop back into a complete starfish.

What is particularly remarkable, however, is that starfish can regenerate not only parts of their body, but also their nervous system: expression of the gene sox2 causes injured nerve cells to re-enter the neurogenesis programme and form differentiated nerve cells.

The involvement of sox2 in neuronal regeneration is particularly interesting because it is also involved in transforming mature human cells in cell cultures into induced pluripotent stem cells (IPS).

Sceptical at first, then happy. :)

wow cool, amazing, very beautiful scenery. Clear sea, beautiful colorful starfish. Jana is big now, more beautiful dare to hold starfish 👍👏👏😁 is it safe to hold starfish? doesn't it itch?

Most starfish species are completely harmless for humans. An exception is the 'crown-of-thorns starfish' (Acanthaster planci) with venomous thorn-like spines that cover its upper surface.

Oh wow! Beautiful. I'm from Batangas, but never been here. Hope we get to visit it when we go home for vacay soon.

just a few weeks ago, nakarating na rin ako dyan, nasa Calatagan yan.

Oo nga sir, ginoogle ko na. hehe. Sana'y makarating din jan soon. 😍

I checked your profile and saw that you are staying in UAE now, right?
I am sure that's also an interesting country. Which place would you prefer after having lived in these two different countries?

Lifestyle-wise, the UAE is great - safe, convenient transportation, lots of family-friendly places - but still, it is not home. At the end of it all, we will all go back to PH. My heart always craves for home despite being here for almost 20 years.😌

Wuaooooooo amazing! I didn't know starfish could regenerate. Great pictures! I need beach hahaha

Hehe, nice to hear that you enjoyed reading my post and even could learn something new! :)

The place surely stands for its name. It's beautiful like Boracay. And those starfish looks fun to play with.

I've been on this place and it is amazingly beautiful

I just checked your blog and think it's worth to follow: nice posts! :)

Thank you so much @jaki01, I do the same cause I think we are both lakwatsero. What is your favorite place visited so far in the Philippines?

It is true that I already travelled a lot (to many countries) but since we are living in the Philippines there were quite some things to do and organize so that we didn't have the time to visit so many places yet.

We are living in Tagaytay which is really a great place, and apart from that have only been to Makati (twice) and Batangas ("Little Boracay" and a place on the shore of Taal Lake).

Of course we plan to see more beautiful places in the Philippines in the months and years to come. :)

Excited to see more of your adventure blogs in the Philippines

It's such a wonderful trip with your warm family and friends. The sea is beautiful with the crystal clear water and picturesque scenery. I really like the starfish that you found. They look awesome and the information you provide is interesting. I'm glad to see all of you happy in a very great atmosphere. Thanks so much for sharing. :)
