President Rodrigo Roa Duterte won the Philippines' election for presidency on June 30, 2016 and became the 16th President of the Republic of the Philippines. He is well know for his "War on drugs" and "Master of Strategy" . He used digital campaign using social media platforms such as Facebook and twitter that greatly influenced his crusade that led him Victorious.
How did Duterte won the presidency? According to Jay Jaboneta - the author of "10 takeaways from Duterte's digital campaign - Duterte's campaign strategy focused on creating an advocacy around the former mayor that led to team of various groups who volunteered including the former ABS - CBN top sales and marketing Honcho, and some notable bloggers and social media specialists who worked side by side with their traditional media peers.
It all started before he even filed for candidacy. During his term of being a Mayor of Davao City, he was known as brave and courageous leader who seemed to be too perfect for his position in the government. Davao City became the fifth safest city in the world on 2015 under his leadership. Residents claimed that a vigilante group named Davao Death Squad exists and are responsible for the killing or disappearance of between 1020 and 1040 people. It is rumored that Davao Death Squad was led by the former mayor but it was never been proved.
He then used his "perfect" image to convey a strong personality which many people loved and admired. He knew already that he was gaining attention. Based on his achievements before and during he became a Mayor, he knew that he was one of the strongest candidate for presidency. People then started convincing him to run for presidency. At first, he was reluctant to run and stated that he was not going to run for president. Because of this he gained popularity. More and more people are convincing him to run. Last day of filing for candidacy, Rodrigo R. Duterte decided to run for the office. The people who supported him did his work for him. The campaign mainly focused on the social media platforms that greatly influenced people to support and vote for him for he is the "perfect" candidate anyone would want to become president.
