Your competition is now global. Embrace it

Before the internet, most people only competed locally. You had to be among the best musicians in the area to have an audience. Or if you were one of the best accountants in your town you were pretty much set for life. This is no longer the case. Most fields of work can now reach a global audience, or need to compete with software. Why should anyone listen to your music instead of the Top 10 on Spotify? Why should they use your accounting services instead of some software solution?

Even here on Steemit, there is almost an infinite amount of content to dig through. Why should you read my post instead of one on the trending page?

Competition is now global.

Despite this, the overwhelming tone I'm getting from the people writing about this is a negative one. They say it's impossible to make a living by blogging, or by selling music on streaming services, or by making your own app, etc.

On the other hand, there are millions of gurus targeting you with ads about their "10 easy steps to become a billionaire", or "a simple shortcut to financial freedom".

There are no shortcuts. Everything worthwhile takes time and strenuous effort. Yes, the competition maybe is fiercer. Yes, the game has changed. You have two options:

  1. Figure out how to make the systems work for you or change them until they do.
  2. Give up and wither away.

I hope you choose the former. Use it to fuel you to become better and more creative in your thinking.

Adapt and evolve.
