grooming and bathing are important aspects of the general care of the animal patient and are important for several reasons . first, a clean and well-groomed animal has an enhanced sense of well-being and potentially will recover fro an illness more rapidly . second ,grooming and med-icated baths are recommended for the prevention or treatment of many dermatological problems. bathing with shampoo that contains an insecti-cide is a useful adjunct in the control of ectopar-asites. finally, the cleanliness of the patient at the time of discharge is an indication to the owner of the overall quality of the health care provided. every animal hospital should have an adequate collection of grooming and bathing equipment and supplies , that is ,combs, brushes, scissors , towels for drying , electrical dryers and a selection of shampoos appropriate for different situations . care must be taken to prevent the spread of infectious problems, such as dermatomycosis,from one animal to another via grooming instru-ments . these instruments should be thoroughly cleansed in an appropriay disinfectant solution after each use.
when clipping or removing hair from an animal for medical reasons, it is important to obtain the owner 's permission ,whenever possible . this i particularly important in animal used for show purposes in certain breeds,such as the afghan hound , regrowth of hair is extremely slow qazi waqas ahmed
