Iranian drone reportedly films close-up shots of US aircraft carrier… and gets away with it (VIDEO)

An Iranian UAV has reportedly brazenly approached a US aircraft carrier group in the Persian Gulf to film the ships close-up in HD. The images were shared by Tehran's semi-official news agency.
The undated clip, which was released by Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps, showed a homemade Ababail-3 drone taking off from an Iranian airfield with the musical accompaniment of a rather epic tune.

Its audacious mission proved successful, according to Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency, which reported on the close-up shots of the USS 'Dwight D. Eisenhower' aircraft carrier apparently taken by the UAV.

The footage was recorded from such a small distance that the numbers on the wings of E-2C reconnaissance planes and F-18 fighter jets on deck are easily distinguishable. Iranian graphic designers even captioned some of the aircraft in the video.

Tasnim hinted that the drone flyby was a response to the US designating the Revolutionary Guard a "terrorist organization" earlier in April. It was the first time that a whole foreign military was put on the blacklist by Washington.

USS 'Dwight D. Eisenhower' is the flagship of the Carrier Strike Group 10, which also includes guided-missile cruisers USS 'Monterey,' USS 'San Jacinto' and USS 'Vella Gulf.' The air wing of the 333-meter-long aircraft carrier consists of around 90 planes and helicopters.

This is a humiliation for the US and its claimed superiority, if a Drone can come that close what would missiles do?
We don't even know whether the Drones managed to deliver some gifts for the US ships that will work on time?!
US should be more humble in its threats from now on..

If it was missiles or something similar, presumably the US ship would have cared more. Being just a drone is probably exactly why there was no reaction.

What would you like the US to do instead? Fire dangerous shots into the air because of a drone?

Stuff like this is a pretty predictable blowback of occupying the area. Obviously Iran can't actually confront the US, so they try to do whatever pointless little things might make for a good headline.

I wish the US military wasn't occupying the area, but it seems silly to see this as some sort of "humiliation" or even noteworthy.

Most likely the ship didn't really care that much and made the mature decision not to engage a harmless drone.

This whole thing is propaganda to try to pit people against each other and rile up bad feelings.

Thank you for your comment, with your way of thinking no wonder why people advising Trump and other US officials get them into useless costly wars around the globe where they will never win the war, they might win some battles though, but not honest ones, anyways.

As for this drone, just clear your head for a second and think if this shop was a Russian ship and some developing country flies a drone over it and take such close ups, how hysterically would the US media and US Pentagon officials comment on it? just imagine, now back to the military aspect.

Iran is building its own drones without any help from anybody, on the contrary, the US and mini US Israel keep sabotaging their economy, military, assassinating their scientists... The US ships should be more capable, as the US officials and their propagandists claim, than the Russians to take control of the drone and land it or shoot it with their 'laser canons', or even with a machine gun, no need for any advanced system, but the US fleet didn't see the drone altogether, and that's the story.

This harmless drone is publicized, that means the non-publicized must be more serious, plus, what if really the Iranians could send a couple of dozens of such harmless charged drones to the fleet during battle time, do you know what this will cause the electronic systems onboard the ships? What about some of the drones would poop bombs over the US sitting ducks fighter jets?

You must be following news since you commented on this post and seen the conflict in Syria between Syria and its Russian and Iranian allies on one side, and the US and its allies ISIS, Nusra Front, Al-Qaeda, Israel, the Gulfies on the other side, you know how many times the US sent drones charged with weapons over the Russian military base in Lattakia? Just a couple days ago was their latest failed attempt, all were caught, many were controlled landing and others shot down with machine guns, none got over the base, and they flew in hundreds so far, Nusra Front claimed responsibility to save the face of the US.

You're getting the point?
