Permaculture in the Sahara!
A young couple create a Permaculture farm in the Sahara desert.
Domaine Nzaha, is living proof that its not only possible but 'easy' to grow healthy organic vegetables in the Sahara desert without any pesticides, fungasides or fertilizer and minimum water.
At the Gates to Sahara is where Wissal and Amine Ben Moussa decided to show with their own example that there is no region that cannot be rehabilitated.
Located in a place called Guelmim, in the west of Morocco, it’s one of the most hostile environments on the planet. Wissel and her family are literally turning the desert green.
""Wissel and her family are using permaculture techniques to build soil productivity. As Wissel explains, the basics are simple enough – continually build the soil’s capacity to grow food through the constant use of green and animal manures and make intelligent use of the available water.
It took them a couple of years to revive the lifeless soil
Now Domaine Nzaha supplies neighbouring households with healthy vegetables and promotes a thoughtful way of living.
they have created an ecosystem in the desert that the whole region has started to benefit from.
They set a great example of small steps that can make big changes - both locally and internationally (if you help them spread the word by sharing this post).
Such practical initiatives can contribute to the solution to modern problems of food security.
Their journey is an example to us all to take the actions we can in the face of insufficent action or leadership on climaite change and saving the environment.
They realised the response to climate change was insufficient
That made them angry and determind to make a difference themselves
They learnt about permaculture
They applied permaculture to their lives and farm
They changed how thier live and their environment, impacting their local area
In Wissel's words.....'The compost is one the most amazing examples of the biocycles in permaculture : you feed the animals🐄🐓, they give you manure 💩, that ferment with the help of many little microscopic helpers 🦠, then you spread it in a soil to enrich it, so it will grow amazing plants 🌱🌾(with the push of little helpers 🐛🐜…always) to feed us all, animal included 🐏🦆.
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL FULL EARTHY CIRCLE' 🌎♻️
