Zone 5 in Permaculture is the wilderness. There is little human intervention in zone 5 besides the observation of natural eco-systems, cycles and some foraging. Zone 5 is where we learn the most important lessons of the first Permaculture principle of working with nature, not against.
This is my FAVORITE spot to take a break and observe Zone 5. Or just take a nap in between running around on the farm.
Part of the view of Zone 5 from the hammock. Some times it is hard to believe that I get to look at that every day.
SOME THING I LIKE FORAGING OUT OF ZONE 5
Pawpaw
Turkey Tail Mushroom
Black Walnuts Hickory nuts
Muscadine Grape
Autumn Olive
Elderberry
Go out and explore you Zone 5. You'll be surprised what you may find and learn!!
This was inspired by @cheneats post from yesterday
THANK YOU FOR POPPING BY!!
Great Zone 5!
Most people don't realize how naturally productive wilderness can be.
Thank you @trquewrench.
Yep, that's one reason I like spreading the word.😁
you have gorgeous land!! wow!
loved this post on Zone 5 and you have some fantastic wild foods that we also share <3
Thank you @mountainjewel!😊
We're trying to create a "zone 5" even in our small village plot of 1/4 acre! I feel it's so important to have this "untouched" space, not just as a habitat, but mentally, like a demonstration! This is the space where I can do nothing and still it thrives, still I get yields out of it!
It must be amazing to have a river on the property! Any flooding problems?
Thank you @bobydimitrov for your comments! From what I have heard from the neighbors that have lived here for a wile is that it is rare for it to flood. But it will. I have the 100 year flood plain map for the property so I know where to build and not to build. It rained for almost a week straight last year and the bottom of my hammock was in the water. Witch is a good 6 foot above the water. I hope you find your Zone 5.😁
nice property!
Thank you @urbanhomesteader!
Really nice post :) It is clear how you enjoy your zone 5, it is such a fun and natural area. It must be relaxing to take a nap there and clear your mind :)
Thank you @landarch.milica! I't is quite relaxing.😊
There is food and medicine everywhere if you know where to look.
You got that right @lacostas.👍
