Hello @bluerthangreen.
Here in rural Portugal these works are fairly cheap in comparison. Driver and machine cost 35€ per hour. 8 hours times 3 days makes 840€. I know that i.e. in Germany an excavator of that size will work an afternoon for the same money.
Did you also engage in earthworks already? What is your experience?

Not yet. I'm still observing the land. I did bring in Nick Ferguson last summer for a consultation and he recommended an initial Swale along the south side of my main drive way with a drainage basin to collect excessive down hill run off since my property is on a gentle north facing slope.

I'm with you. I observed a year before I went to action. I guess at least one time through all the seasons is a must, when one wants to really understand a property.
Make shure to position your swale on the highest, longest contour line on your property. Is your main drive on contour? Also I would advice you to have the swale on the lower side of your driveway so that the water infiltration into the soil will not undercut your road.

Thanks for the advice. The road is in contour.

No problem. Keep me updated!
