My fellow steemian friends, I am just loving this platform and amazed by its technology and its influence. STEEMIT has motivated and influenced me to share another experience of visiting an absolute mesmerizing and holy place of my Homeland, India
It was the festive season in our part of the world and we were confused about the destination. A colleague of mine suggested just go and get a glimpse of Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat in Varanasi on the Ganges River.
So we decided let's visit Varanasi or Banaras, called locally.
Varanasi
The Hindu Mythology states that Varanasi was founded by Lord Shiva on the banks of the holy Ganges River and it is so sacred that death in this city can provide you Moksha.
So we were into a place of rich heritage and probably 3000 years of history. This is a very important city from the traditional, cultural and religious point of view.
It is said if you have any doubt about Hindutwa or the religion of Hinduism, the answer is in Banaras.
Few important places here are
- Dashashwamedh Ghat
The meaning of Dashashwamedh is 'sacrifice of 10 horses'. It is considered as the main ghat of Varanasi as according to Hindu Mythology this ghat was created to welcome Lord Shiva. It is probably the most spectacular ghat here and the view of Ganga Aarti
is mesmerizing. Amidst the huge crowd and chaos the serenity and tranquility is restored. There is hardly any other place where you can get this feeling where the belief of a single religion keeps restoring every evening since ages.
The pictures will show how the brahmins perform Ganga Aarti by holding huge fire bowls in their hands and offer their prayers to the almighty!!
- Assi Ghat
It is the most visited ghat in Varanasi and the visitors can go more than 20 thousand on festive days like Shiv Ratri. It is situated in the southern most part of Varanasi.
- Manikarnika Ghat
This ghat is known as a place of Hindu Cremation. Cremation here takes place continuously one after another for more than thousand years and there's someone being cremated by the time you read this post.
The saints here ensure that the deceased attained moksha by performing yajnas, dwelling on the charnel grounds and sometimes by using human skull and bones. It is said that cremation here means Moksha.
There are many other places in Varanasi which will make you feel and experience the way of Hindu lifestyle, their rituals but what stuck me is the religion of Hinduism, which has thousands of Gods and the followers live among peace and serenity by offering prayers to all of the Gods. Isn't it Incredible to search for peacefulness and serenity among the chaos of thousand Gods.
