Pastor Chris Oyakhilome is well known throughout the world as one of the more notable evangelists and preachers. His Christ Embassy church is known all throughout the modern world. Some recent comments though that he made about Christian women have women throughout his native Nigeria on the defense. Oyakhilome recently told his parishoners that women were not on the same level as men and as wives that they must serve their masters who are their husbands. Pastor Oyakhilome stated that a 'Husband does not mean the male partner in a marriage. Husband is defined as the master. The reason for most problems in a majority of Christian marriages is the fact that women believe they are equal with their husbands and their partners. In marriage, you have the man who is the head of that union and because he is the head of that particular union, it is very important to understand him'. These recent comments have Christian women and feminists throughout Nigeria on the defense and not in tune with Oyakhilome's comments. Oyakhilome further explained his point. 'Most people believe that the husband needs to understand his wife and that is where you are wrong. Eventually the husband will understand his wife but the wife also needs to know the type of man that she is married to and understand what his needs are. When a woman says that she is marrying a man, she has to realize that she is coming under his authority. While you are both heirs to the kingdom of God, that does not mean that the husband and wife share the authority. When a woman decides not to heed to the authority of her husband, then she is a rebel. She is going against the word of God. God will not accept what is being done because you are rebelling against his word' said Oyakhilome. Pastor Chris Oyakhilome went on to say that woman was created as an afterthought because in the beginning he only created Adam. He quoted the scripture in Genesis 2:18 that says that 'it is not good for man to be alone'. Oyakhilome says that there is big difference between lonely and alone. He explains that God did not mean for man to have a partner who was equal and who would act as of sort of an advisor to him. Pastor Chris believes that woman was made to be a helper to help the man achieve the goals that God has set forth for him. He went as far as to say that a man does not want another mother or nor does he want another sister. 'A man loves the God that he serves and the woman that serves him. Man will fight the woman who wants to be at the same level as him' said Oyakhilome. Incidentally, there has been one Nigerian woman who agrees with Pastor Chris Oyakhilome and that is Dr. Ijabla Raymond. She says that Pastor Chris is simply following what was written in the creation story in Genesis at the beginning of the Holy Bible. Dr. Raymond also quotes from the New Testament in which she says that in the book of Timothy where it instructs women to be silent in the church. She also quoted the book of Corinthians where the Bible states that man is the image and glory of God and women are the image and glory of man. Still, there are those Nigerian women out there who believe that the recent comments by Pastor Chris Oyakhilome are not in line with today's standards.
