One issue that keeps boggling my mind as relates to parenting is the deliberate refusal of some parents to embrace change. A lot of parents see nothing wrong in continuing the pattern with which they were raised by their own parents.
It leaves me wondering how we intend to solve 21st century parenting challenges with 19th century thinking. Truth be told, times have changed. Hence, we need a new way of thinking in order to solve today's challenges.
You cannot parent effectively beyond your present level of knowledge. Seek for knowledge. Invest in parenting literatures, parenting 'klinics', coaching sessions, etc. If you can't afford the aforementioned, there are tons of free useful resources available on the internet. There is no excuse not to upgrade your knowledge bank and improve your parenting skills.
Parenting is a challenging job and support can be useful at different stages as your child grows up. Join a community of parents and learn from the experiences of others. The rigours of parenting are made lighter when you can count on the support of like-minded parents. Don't suffer in silence. Reach out and get all the help you need.
Be open to new ideas. Be ready to learn, unlearn, and relearn. All you already know is all you've learnt, but all you've learnt isn't all there is to know. It's time to be deliberate and intentional about parenting.
Most modern day parenting is pampering, little wonder we have proliferation of rotten spoilt illmannered, indiscipline children. Its pathetic
Very true
May God help all the parents

@apembus, I appreciate how my wife and I built upon the parenting styles we saw from our parents.
There are things that we drew from both sides, but when we saw weakness we decided to find new ways and new models that match with our parenting goals.
We are not afraid of classic approaches, and we are not afraid to new approaches and models.
