Paragliding Practice in the park | Strong winds | I get picked up at the park a few times

in #paragliding7 years ago (edited)

The number one thing that pilots tell you to do to get better, and safer is ground handling.

This is where you take your set up and go where there is some wind and practice all the things you can to simulate what its like in the air without leaving the ground.

Ground handling is the fundamental thing that every pilot should be proficient in.

@paleotreats and my self went to the park, when all the other homies were at the glider port.

The reason is because the winds were too strong for our abilities.

The first thing you need to do is build a wall.

YeeeHaaaa!

Once the wing is up over your head, you need to balance using your brakes.

If the wing surges to the left, lean left, pull left and go left to get under the wing.

The report said the winds were going to be about 18-20 mph.

That is no joke when you are flying with a full size wing.

I ended up getting tossed up a few times from the winds gusting.

The goal is to try to maintain your wing. Keep it over head.

One of the guys I had the privilege to interview on the paragliding talk show created a website to step up your ground handling skills. Click here if you want to participate in the challenge.

One of the interview that we had on the show was with Gavin McClurg. He was named most adventurous man of the year by National Geographic one year.

Kiting is the single most effective thing you can do to become a safer and better pilot all around.

Gavin M said that durning his prep for flying in the RedBull X-Alps He was ground handling for hours every day as a part of the regiment.

I am not trying to become a XC Athlete, but I would like to be a safer, better pilot.

just dropping by on your profile, thought you might jave a new adventure post , thanks again for dropping into mine , got new post 👍😊❤️❤️❤️

Always be learning, love it dawg! Good job hustling out there, stoked to see you getting better at kissing the wingtip to the ground. Definitely watch the over-application of brakes; see how it dumps the wing and whips you off your feet when you do it? Let it fly!

Thanks for the insight. I hope we can get a few more wind days over here so I can get good at ground handling.

A pleasant experience I really wished to live! thank u for sharing

Thanks for stoping by.

Nice spot to ground handle. 20 mph is badass with a full size wing! Be careful and keep posting!

Thank you my friend! I still have a lot to learn.
