Paragliding at palomar in strong conditions | My lack of training almost cost me big time | Time to dial back

I under estimated the potential of this day of flying. The report that I normally follow for weather was not accurate at all.

Turns out that this day was very good. There were some little gusts of wind. A slightly high laps rate.

I picked up Tony and we headed to the site in Southern California

We picked up this guy.

Now its off to the races

The runway

I told Jeff "no pressure, I am recording your launch"

Screen Shot 2017-11-21 at 7.24.10 AM.png

If you look close you can see a bunch of pilots at 7000 ft.

Screen Shot 2017-11-21 at 7.24.33 AM.png

My turn

Screen Shot 2017-11-21 at 7.25.29 AM.png

The lift was strong

Screen Shot 2017-11-21 at 7.25.45 AM.png

Everyone was able to find something to work with.

Screen Shot 2017-11-21 at 7.27.01 AM.png

The lift was everywhere.

Screen Shot 2017-11-21 at 7.29.41 AM.png

I fell into a batch of sink and had to top land again.

Screen Shot 2017-11-21 at 7.35.00 AM.png

I quickly re-grouped and waited for another cycle

Screen Shot 2017-11-21 at 7.35.52 AM.png

I was on my way to 7k

Screen Shot 2017-11-21 at 7.36.47 AM.png

At this point in the video I was at about 7300 ft above sea level.

Screen Shot 2017-11-21 at 7.38.56 AM.png

At this altitude there were a few things that were going on with the wing because of the shear.

Screen Shot 2017-11-21 at 7.39.31 AM.png

It was right here that I took a huge collapse and fell into a spiral.

Screen Shot 2017-11-21 at 7.40.08 AM.png

Good news is I was getting down from that dangerous air.

Screen Shot 2017-11-21 at 7.40.37 AM.png

Bad news is I didn't properly exit the spiral

Screen Shot 2017-11-21 at 7.41.55 AM.png

After that I just wanted to get down an figure out what happened.

Screen Shot 2017-11-21 at 7.42.21 AM.png

We all talked about it. And it all comes down to me needing more training.

Screen Shot 2017-11-21 at 7.43.10 AM.png

I could have avoided the collapse if I would have exited the spiral with less energy.

Screen Shot 2017-11-21 at 7.44.18 AM.png

I will be making a analyzation video very soon.

what a ride that was!

No doubt. First time I have had me nerves rattled paragliding.

Whoa!!!

I'm so thankful and glad that you got out of that incident intact. Praise the LORD! :D

😄😇😄

@creatr

Mo said I should check out your flying posts. We're both glad that you were able to get back down!

hey rhoda. Its my obsession. Thanks for stopping over and watching. Are you on discord?

That must of been intense! I was really wanting to go paragliding after seeing your previous posts, now I'm slightly less sure about that... still looks fun!

It was quite a ride. I will work out the kinks, then I will be doin spirals for fun. If it was easy everyone would be doing it. Lol 😝 thanks for stopping by.
