Paul Guschlbauer came in 3rd place in the 2017 RedBull X-Alps. This is a competition where the guys run, hike or fly across the Alps.
When I got to the launch I was so excited to see a bunch of people setting up to fly.
The hike to launch is about 15 minutes.
Not bad at all.
The day started off slow, with a couple people going to the bailout.
Paul took his wife on a tandem flight. But they couldn't find lift and landed at the bail out.
This is the harness that Paul used for his X-Alps Comp.
I am going to interview him on the paragliding talk show on Thursday. It should be a great time!
Paul was itching to launch, but the conditions were not "on" yet.
He launched anyway. LOL
He would have to fight to stay up.
Ultimately he ended up at the bail out again, but when it turned on about 15 minutes later he re-launched from the bailout and had a great low save.
My turn.
I quickly found a thermal and went across the valley to El Capitan.
Its not every day that we get to go over there.
The report was good in the evening so I figured I would have no problem getting back.
Before we launched Chris said he wanted to go to El Cap, with me, if I went.
From the looks of it he had a great time.
The wind got a little strong when on the other side.
I made the decision to head back to the launch.
When it was all said and done, everyone was down safe at the end of the day.
What an amazing day!
Watch the video to see the bonus footage.
Don't forget to follow if you like what you see.
I have always said I would love to go paragliding, but age has made me a bit of a scaredy cat.
It was a bit windy yesterday, and it was sketchy. Is this @jonny-clearwater?
lol....no. I am his wife.
Ok then I will be nice. LOL
haha...thanks! I have read some of your other comments on @jonny-clearwater s post. They make me laugh.
RedBull X-Alps sounds badass!
I was following Paul the whole competition last year because he was vloging each day. I was really hoping that he got first place. He ended up in third. He has a great Youtube channel.
Obviously at great day!
Beautiful pictures.
Human flight is overrated in my view, but I enjoyed the pictures.
It was my favorite day so far. Meeting Paul was like meeting a celebrity.
