Paul and I launched our paragliders from the edge of the valley at a place we call the knob.

The winds were almost nil and there were just a few birds going up. We stashed a couple of the one wheels at the bottom of the hill just in case we didn't get up.

Turns out, a handful of birds showed me where the thermal was right out front and I was able to launch into it and climb up to about 2000 ft above sea level.
