So there's a new dAPP coming to STEEM, and I need your help. The dAPP will be an open source website archival service that leverages the STEEM blockchain for both text archival and payments for the service. This will be one of the few dAPPs on this chain that doesn't use the reward pool for funding, but instead will take liquid payments for the service, and host all text data on the blockchain, championing one of STEEM's least marketed abilities- data retention!
I believe this will be a great addition among the many use cases for STEEM, and will be very marketable to a wide variety of users on a multitude of platforms that want to save something forever. But in order to be marketable, it's going to need a catchy name, and that's where you come in. Right now the working name is @blarchive, which stands for Blockchain Archive, but the name is meh at best and still hasn't grown on me after over a year.
This is where YOU come in. This dAPP needs a marketable name. I think it should say something about the blockchain and about archival, but anything goes. Please leave a comment telling me what you think it should be, and hopefully we can make this something to bolster the value of STEEM.
dArc (decentralized archive)
everyone loves a good d name right? :D
Oh I love this one! Great connotations, short and snappy. BLARCH sounds like I just threw up... no offence! DARC is AWESOME.
This is a pretty good one!
That would be a perfect name!
👍
yeah thats what i was saying darchive
everyone will like this over at @wordproof go work with them and make @steempress jealous
if you venture outside of steem, like to eosio telos etc you can actually get serious funding lol.
this idea could have agreat token sale and deserves funding , we just need to get @infowarslife and the alex jones deplatformed crew behind this
ALSo, theers some cool story about old websites and the people who archive geocities sites lol
archiving is awesome..lets not be afraid to just get Way Back Machine involved, i bet https://archive.org could use steem with a simple steem engine tribe with nitrous front end for posting all the websites LOL ok gross over simplifcation but imn tired and i know this is already a good idea of r0nd0ns here and i just found it and its so cool, it is what some of my first steem posts were about.
https://archive.org hahaha imagine if r0nd0n 's tool backed stuff up to steem AND for extra fee ALSO backed it up to a Torrent file, and paid people to seed them lol. anonymously hahahah ok im done
blarchive lol should be like archiveD or DARCHIVE there ya go ... protection against GOING DARK... DARCHIVE by r0nd0n ... steem engine SMt and pegged to eos and telos, u can get telos proposal funding and make it use telos smart contracts + steem ... use @wordproof :D
what about talking with the word proof guys who have a steempress like service but which people are PAYINg for, while steempress pays PEOPLE lol
anyway reeally cool idea man please post more and i wanna see a cool logo for darchive lol
You should check out the latest post I made about this. We have a name, and a logo, and nearly have an MVP. This is gonna be sweet.

Sounds like a great dapp idea!
I personally prefer having some relation to Steem in the name, in order to gain recognition & boost the platform's reputation. I used Launchaco's Name Service to make sure that these names are available on all social media sites as well as good domain names available. Here's my suggestion:
Here's some quick & dirty logo mockups to get a better reference of what these names look like in production:
I think my personal favorite would be Starchive, since I'm thinking ahead to the overall design of the app & can picture how stars & space can play into the theme of it all. For instance, if you go the subscription route you could have different price tiers called: "North Star", "Big Dipper", "Milky Way". The "file-uploading" icon could be a cluster of stars being formed or a shooting star, if you have temporary files that get deleted after awhile you could have them be "burning out", you could show all the files uploaded by a specific person in a "constellation" view. Stuff like that.
I also think that the notion of this being sort of a "next-gen" file storage service goes along with the space theme. Currently, everyone knows about "the cloud", wait until you introduce them to "the stars"! lol
Like I said, I really like the idea behind this dapp. Let me know if you need any help on the team, I'd love to join along and I can offer anything from Graphic Design work, Logo Creation, and / or Frontend Development (I know html, css, js, vue, svelte). Good luck with the progress! :^)
I would love to get in touch with you. Are you on Discord?
Great! You can reach me on discord @~spencer~#3319 :^)
Yeah, I was gonna say xeem but, nvm this concept way better!
I think Starchive, or StarXive, is gonna be pretty hard to beat.
Thanks!
Just call it D.A.T.A.

Sounds like a good idea to me! Resteemed and upvoted :)

Another good one!
The day I heard you were doing this I was sold. I love this idea. Here is my suggestion.
This is a start. I'll think of some more. Love the idea and totally can help test it whenever.
SteemStorage is pretty good, and TheTavern is random but somehow also fits haha

Blogarchive...maybe...
In keeping with my capitulation regarding rhetoric and factual reality, I propose naming conventions that have no relation to the actual purpose and features of the dApp. CuteKittens, InnocentPuppies, or SexyBabes, come to mind.
Thanks!
Highly rEsteemed!
Call it Steemail and compete with a 30 year old antiquated exploit that EVERONE still uses and no one seems to realize how exploited it is.
Marmalade - it's a preserve
Thats pretty cute!!!!!
upvoting just for cleverness, as there's already a web tool called Marmalade so I think a different name would be better for SEO purposes
Clownarc
I giggled .
Ok best one ever: AR.CHIVE
