To Honor Old Masters - Landscape as a Mirror of Human Emotions by Jacob van Ruisdael

Jacob van Ruisdael ( 1629 – 1682 ) was a Dutch painter, draughtsman, and etcher. He is considered to be the leading master of landscape painting in the Netherlands. He managed to turn landscape painting into a mirror of human emotions. The manner of painting with small strokes characterizes the variety of forms seen in the landscape motif and at the same time their emotional experience, figurative perception. The movement of each motive is composed of a broad, powerful process of interconnection and interaction of the elemental forces of nature and all its creations on earth. Ruisdael loved to paint forest thickets, swamps, waterfalls - places where people are just a passer-by, little Dutch cities or villages, lost in the spatial distance of the plains under the huge, triumphantly domineering sky.
