Dhassig Band an ethno fusion music group which started in Cagayan de Oro way back in 2012 but has formally started recording just this year launch their EP Album titled “Tagumpay” in Davao City at Balik Bukid Farm and Kitchen Restaurant last March 2, 2018. Dhassig sounds like the Cebuano vernacular “to inspire” and it is the bands advocacy to promote positive influence among the listeners about cultural heritage and positive lifestyle. Members of the group came from different back ground; Jeric Acasio, the drummer of the group used to perform internationally and have toured in Europe, Middle East and Asia. A pure Kagay-anon by birth, he started playing drums on church and presently he is ministering his own congregation. David Yañez, a Higaonon tribesman from Baungon, Bukidnon, David is an expert djembie or tambol percussionist. He is the bands drum maker and is a multi talented individual, presently venturing into the traditional fire dancing of the Polynesian people. Dennis Salagia is also a perscussionist of the group and an expert craftsman. A Manobo Tribesman by birth from Don Carlos, Bukidnon he came to Cagayan de Oro City with a very humble beginning, slowly learning various creative works and is now presently running his own brand. Koko Caharian is the bands bass player and expert in his fiel, Koko is popularly known in Cagayan de Oro with his bass skills in Jazz and Bossa Nova, with this expertise his contribution to the ethno fusion music of Dhassig creates a Northern Mindanao mix with an international flavor of sounds. Jun Jun Cacho is the lead vocalist and composer of the group, a Manobo of Quezon, Bukidnon Junjun shares his lyrics about life and his journey as a pastor to people who have experienced being lost n life. Rhyan Casiño (that’s me),is the various ethno music player of the group and an adopted Tigwahanon tribesman in San Fernando, Bukidnon. My journey among the tribal communities in Mindanao leads me to realize the richness of the Mindanaowan identity and being shared in the Dhassig Band. Balik Bukid Farm to Kitchen Restaurant in Sandawa Park, Davao City welcomed the band and holds a one night EP Album launch. Balik Bukid a haven for environmentalist and organic lifestyle is a perfect avenue for the Northern Mindanao ethno music group. The event was witnessed by local artists of Davao City like the Sining Kamalayan band and a night of jamming together was experienced that night. This venture is a good indicator that musicians from all over Mindanao can play togetherand be united as one people and with a common cause. Tagumpay!
