Hello fellow steemers,

Yesterday my friend Ian and I decided to go spelunking. We have hundreds of caves in Central Oregon, and we've been to most of them, but we decided to go to "Pictograph Cave." Neither of us have been to this cave in about 10 years, so it was a little tough finding it, but after walking a couple of miles through the high desert, we found it.

Honestly I'm a little reluctant sharing the photos of these pictographs on the internet because these are ancient, fragile pictographs and neither I or the forest service want a lot of traffic to these caves, and some people like to graffiti and litter in this area. But if you wish to see these caves, I ask that you respect the ancient pictographs and the bats that live in the cave.

So here's a pic of the desert we were walking in for a couple miles, not a human in sight:

Here is a pic of coyote dens, there was a lot of them out there. They are sleeping inside these dens during the day, and you can't see but there is a pool of the resident coyotes urine in the entrance of the den to ward off intruders:

Thanks to Google Maps, we found it!
Here's the entrance to Pictograph Cave, it's a Lava Tube and there's a cave to the left and a cave to the right:

Here's Ian standing in the entrance after we descended down the steep, icy slope:

So BOOM! Here are some Pictographs:

We stared at these for about 20 minutes trying to decipher them, to no avail. I wish I had more information on when and who drew these pictographs. Maybe I'll do a blog where I go ask the forest service for information about them.

So after we gazed upon these amazing pictographs, we descending into the right side of cave:

Once we got deeper into the cave we found some amazing ice sculptures:

The large entrance is now just a flicker of light:

We hung out for a little bit down here, and turned our headlamps off to enjoy the silence and darkness, except we could hear a few bats.

After coming out of the cave we were treated to a beautiful, bright sunset:

And that was yesterday's adventure! We didn't have time to enter the left side of the cave. But it looks just as big, if not bigger. It doesn't look like it but that black hole is about 3-4 stories high!File Feb 17, 11 38 00.jpeg:

Thanks for reading and I'll be doing more exploring in the coming days due to warming weather. Feel free to comment down below with any questions.

Thank you!

And looks like a warning don't trip? Lol!

I always wanted to explore a cave ever since I was a kid. There is just something about caves that is intriguing.

Thanks for sharing. I’ll have to settle for looking at your pictures until I can make it to check out some caves myself.
