For this week's Openmic, I decided to put one of my own songs out there called "Free".
I have only played it for a few people, so we'll see how this goes!
This is a song I wrote about abuse and how it repeats its cycle from generation to generation until someone breaks it. I found myself following this cycle even though I was aware of it, it's just hard to control when that's all you know.
The lyrics are mostly paraphrased from Isaiah 61, and it's where I found healing from God from the wounds that we inflict on one another. I hope this song can bring healing to someone else who is going through this as well.
Through places long devastated
Searching through what’s left of this ruined city
The devastation of many generations
Dead in my transgressions
Waging war as the world does
Following the sons of rebellion
Pursuing the prince of the power
of the air
Wearing a crown of ashes
Weeping from the oil of mourning
Donning a spirit of despair
Where can I go?
Where can I flee
From your presence?
If I go up to the heavens
Or make my bed in the depths
You are there
Even there
Bestowed a crown of beauty
The oil of gladness
A garment of praise
I will rebuild the ancient ruins
And restore the places long devastated
I will renew the ruined city
The devastation of generations
For I’ve been set free
I’ve been set free
Set free
For freedom
For freedom
For freedom’s sake
For the display of your splendor.
@morodiene,
That would be great! Your lyrics right? Then awesome! Keep it up friend!
Cheers~
loved it. It sounds amazing!!! I also do covers, play violin and do videos on youtube as well. We have to support the music industry on steemit, that's why I upvoted you :D
Thanks for you support!
Welcome, I'll be back to see you progress :)
Thanks for singing for us. Nice song.
Thank you!
I'm not religious, but I felt your conviction coming through. Bravo!
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it! :)
Hi @morodiene, I just want you to know I don't have adequate bandwidth on my internet at home so I have to use cafes to watch videos etc, so I'm yet to hear you sing! But it's a priority of mine, as I know you listen to my music, I'm sorry...!
I'd love to hear your comments when you get the chance!
Wow it's very progressive, a bit like a Queen song! Did you write the music? I love the metaphor you use, I can really relate to what you're saying because I'm going through that now, trying to rebuild the ruined city. It's like fighting a war inside yourself trying to undo the conditioning we go through in early life..
You have a beautiful voice, I appreciate the hopeful ending! ;)
Thanks for listening! Yes, the music is mine. I had just taken a Coursera class on music production and decided to try my hand at making my own song. I learned a lot from that - mostly what not to do - but for the most part it turned out ;) .
Most of the music I've written is classical, but I'm a really slow composer so I don't have much to show for it LOL
Cooooool nice song! check out my cover City of stars from La La Land!
You have a great my friend! Keep up the great music looking forward to see more posts from you. I love music and been playing the drums since I was a tot. Always wished I could sing but I can't. Haha Steem on!!
Thank you! Drums I always thought would be cool to play, but we can't do it all. Still, if you want to sing, you can always improve. :)

Again with the powerful lyrics and voice. holds onto chair Abuse is something I have had to deal with many times in the past so this resonated with me, and was actually the subject of one of my recent posts. Thank you for sharing, much love. <3
