The deadline to submit your entry is Monday. 1st of January 2018. Please have the song posted by then so we have time to review them all.

@meno graciously offered to sponsor this fantastic, music-making, creativity-sparking, songwriting challenge by providing a new guitar with hard case to one, lucky winner!

The contest will run for 8-weeks and each week we will provide a theme. You will write a new song about or related to that theme.

This challenge will require you to write up to 8 new songs, one per week. This is the challenge.

We will provide the theme each week and make it a bit uncommon so songwriters will not be able to pull previously written songs from their repertoire.

They will actually have to write a song based on the theme we provide and have a little less than a week to write each song.

So, are you up for the challenge? A shot to win that guitar?

Keep reading to discover how it works.

Open Mic Songwriters Challenge Rules

Following these rules is very important so your posts can get curated, upvoted, and seen by the Open Mic community.

  • The contest will run for 8 weeks. Each week will have a new theme. Songwriters will write one new song each week using the theme we provide.

  • Songwriters can join at any time, but the sooner you join the more points you'll accumulate, making your chances to win a little better. Don't worry, be happy.

  • Submit Original Music Written For This Challenge Only and related to each week's theme that we'll provide.

  • You can enter Steemit Open Mic and the Open Mic Songwriters Challenge with the same entry. Just say it is for both at the start of your video. Add a link to your post to both contests. Better yet, make 2 posts, one for each contest.

  • No covers, no parodies, or no cover versions will be considered as a valid entry.

  • You can sing in any language but the lyrics must be posted on your post in the language it is sung in plus in English using Google Translate.

  • OpenMic Songwriters Challenge Week 6 must be the start of the title of the post, this is key so that judges can easily find the entries.

  • You must say “OpenMic Songwriters Challenge Week 6” at the beginning of your video so we know you are really playing live for us for this contest (Adding an edit to a prerecorded video just to add the words is not good enough. It must be said out loud by the person performing the song just prior to performing it. Recording the words and editing it to the beginning of a video still does not prove it was really you)

  • Live performances only. No studio recorded tracks. Recording quality is not being judged. You can record it on your phone.

  • openmic & openmicsongwriters must be your first and second tag respectively. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT

  • Add a link to your entry post to the comments of the contest post published by @luzcypher so we know you entered. That's this post.

  • Lyrics must be included in your post If the song is sung in another language, the lyrics must be posted in both English and the language it is sung in.

  • Upvote the Open Mic Songwriters Challenge weekly post posted by @luzcypher

  • Give a high five to @meno because this is SO COOL!

  • All songs must be about the week’s theme, entries not related to the theme will not be considered as valid.

What About The Prizes?

All rules must be followed to qualify for the prize.

Winner of the contest takes home a brand new Grace Harbor Acoustic/Electric Guitar with a hard case. You can have a look and a listen to this beautiful guitar in this video.

Shipping is included in the Continental United States. If you reside outside the U.S. he will ship it to the courier of your choice and you will need to pay any other import or shipping charges.

The holidays got the better of me and I missed out last week but here's this week's entry! https://steemit.com/openmic/@anniemacleod/open-mic-songwriters-challenge-week-6-special-delivery

What rhymes with delivery?

It was very liver-ie?

:)

Good luck to us guys.

"Isn't He" ;-) he-he... or maybe; "want-to-be" or "wouldn't she?"

I do write songs....but alas....I don't sing 😫

Start singing, Jim Morrison was the same way you are now, and look at him now...dead :P

Don't scare me like that....

haha ...aww Jim xoxo

The reason the vast majority of, people who say they can't sing, can't sing is because they tell themselves they can't sing..................... true dat! ;)

The singing voice is a different voice to the talking voice, so most of these people just haven't searched around their vocal chords for their singing voice...... yet.

Yes true dat! If you can talk, you can sing. I would slightly deviate from your point about the singing voice being 'different' to the talking voice. I think the problem with that is people often think 'ok im singing now', and they start trying 'breathe properly'and putting pressure/strain on their vocal chords or going too breathy, which ultimately causes difficulties in getting the sounds out how they want them. The truth is, the vocal chords are an instrument which can be learned how to play. We just need to gently train the muscles in the voicebox to stretch and contract. The breathing comes naturally if we relax and allow the sounds out. Did you know that a nasal 'Nay' sound is one of the best for teaching the vocal chords a note (eg. High note). Sometimes I'll "nay nay naaaay nay-nay" through a difficult part of a song to show my vocal chords the correct position to be in and then keep close to the position for the song. (I found videos by vocal coach Brett Manning on YouTube helpful, detailed and free!) Everyone has a voice and it deserves to be heard!! We wanna hear you @big-lou xoxo

Yeah I'm with you there, natural is best, you get to know whereyou need to breathe. I think we're singing off the same hymn sheet here, you call it training muscles up, I call it using a different voice to the talking voice ;). I have two or three different options, more in fact and none of them sound like me when I'm speaking naturally.

It's quite a bit to do with voice projection, we use our voices very differently when raising them or shouting, crying, moaning out loud etc, so when we project a singing voice it's going to lead us somewhere that is unfamiliar to anyone who hasn't really given singing a go. This at first feels a bit odd as in not the norm, some actually feel 'insincere' until they get comfortablle that it is their voice they're still using.

Not many people had voice training a 100yrs ago unless they were in choir, and a lot more people sang, being no TV etc.

That's a useful and new bit of information for me, the "nay nay naying". I sing mostly blues where you'd avoid anything that sounded nasely, but I'll give that a go, I can't get high notes/scales like I used to be able to. ;)

Louis bro... you can collab with someone, that is completely OK.. if you want to break the internet get David to sing with you, the internet would break for sure...

That would be a truly monumental achievement....I don't think there's enough tequila on the planet to get @davidpakman to sing...

I dont know... there are some strong spirits out there... I say we put him on the spot

It might require some blackmailing

hahahahaha man... i can see that video becoming so viral, as a matter of fact I can see David's frenemies going nuts over something like that...

If Dave's singing is as bad as mine, it would be the end of his career

wow so fast sir.,

Phew, I have no idea what to do with that? Mr. Postman?

Ha! How about... "Return to Sender!" :-)

Who’s coming up with these themes... lol

All i can think of is stevie wonder and the postal system right now!

Time to "Stand and Deliver" @jaybird! Ha! :-)

I'll do my best sirs!

Hahaha! This one was from @passion-ground and @meno

jerks... lol

hahahha Jaybird, that is the whole idea... its a challenge!!!

Indeed. That it will be.

I usually spend my sat/sunday afternoons on this. Better start brainstorming now or i'll be in trouble!

I've gotta get mine recorded today... Tomorrow morning I'm heading into almost 50 hours of work in four days. I was stressing out a little last night, but i got it written! I wish I had some consistency with my work schedule.

Spoiler: I went with literal postage.

Haha, i look forward to hearing it. I wonder if I should wait tho, come up with my own idea first. I don't wana get swayed by your awesomeness (although I will admit that I was thinking of also going literal)

This one must have been tough!

It's funny how we have to schedule in time for songwriting eh? It's a good exercise in being able to summon creativity tho. I'm guessing that many of us are used to waiting for inspiration to hit before acting on it & not so much the other way around.

Acá mi participación. Espero les guste bastante

When is the normal contest for people the non talented people. lol That can't write their own songs?

Hey @luzcypher! This one ought to be interesting as well :)

It should be "Special"

Loved your last entry too man. Good stuff

Hahaha, "Delivery" will take effort, but I shall try to get it done :)

It makes me really happy you enjoyed it :)

I'm certain you'll "deliver-the-goods," @luisferchav! :-)

Hahaha
I'll be sure to try and make it extra special!!! :D

I had been so busy lately. I wish to join contests soon. Yay!

special delivery 🚚, sounds glamorous kikikiki

Very nice music bro :)

woahhh I hope I can make it., do we need a pizza for this theme? hahaha this is so cool but difficult for me to not unless I'll bring pizza and deliver it to sir @luzcypher, @meno, @passion-ground and the rest of the open mic team.. LOL

Cool, @g10a... I like my pizza topped with hot cherry peppers! I'll be waiting... Ha-ha :-)

This is my first entry for the Open Mic Songwriters Challenge. I hope you like!

my entry open mic Songwriters Challenge week6 https://steemit.com/openmic/@marshalllife/openmic-songwriters-challenge-week-6

Here is my (late) entry. I'm so bummed! I thought the deadline was Friday, didn't realize it was Monday. I thought I was early, but it turns out I've missed it 😒

On the other hand... I'm proud of myself for coming up with a song using "special delivery"... at first I didn't think I could do it, extra special thanks to @chrisroberts and @jaybird for inspiration 😊https://steemit.com/openmic/@bennettitalia/my-belated-entry-for-week-6-songwriter-s-challenge

You're not "too" late - you're just late is all. :-)

There is a bit of a 24-hour grace period, however, much beyond that and it gets kind of sketchy as to whether the judges have already put together their selections. Hope that helps some... :-)
