El Titanic ,es una película estadounidense dramática de catástrofe de 1997 dirigida y escrita por James Cameron y protagonizada por Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, Billy Zane, Kathy Bates, Gloria Stuart y Bill Paxton. La trama, una epopeya romántica ​ relata la relación de Jack Dawson y Rose DeWitt Bukater, dos jóvenes que se conocen y se enamoran a bordo del transatlántico RMS Titanic en su viaje inaugural desde Southampton, Inglaterra, a Nueva York, EE. UU., en abril de 1912. Pertenecientes a diferentes clases sociales, intentan salir adelante pese a las adversidades que los separarían de forma definitiva, entre ellas el prometido de Rose, Caledon «Cal» Hockley (un adinerado del cual ella no está enamorada, pero su madre la ha obligado a permanecer con él para garantizar un futuro económico próspero) y el hundimiento del lujoso barco tras chocar con un iceberg.

Cameron estaba fascinado por el naufragio del Titanic y su interés en él aumentó al reunirse con Robert Ballard,9​ quien descubrió los restos del barco en la década de 1980,10​ durante la producción de The Abyss.9​ El cineasta buscó patrocinadores en Hollywood para llevar a cabo una expedición al sitio del naufragio, sin todavía tener la intención de hacer una película en torno a los sucesos.11​ Tiempo después escribió un boceto para una cinta sobre el Titanic12​ y se lo presentó a los ejecutivos de 20th Century Fox,13​ quienes le dieron «luz verde» al proyecto.

The Titanic, is a dramatic American film of catastrophe of 1997 directed and written by James Cameron and carried out by Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, Billy Zane, Kathy Bates, Gloria Stuart and Bill Paxton. The plot, a romantic epic tells the story of Jack Dawson and Rose DeWitt Bukater, two young men who meet and fall in love aboard the liner RMS Titanic on its maiden voyage from Southampton, England, to New York, USA. UU., In April 1912. Belonging to different social classes, they try to get ahead despite the adversities that would separate them definitively, among them Rose's fiancee, Caledon «Cal» Hockley (a wealthy one of whom she is not in love, but her mother has forced her to stay with him to guarantee a prosperous economic future) and the sinking of the luxurious ship after colliding with an iceberg.

Cameron was fascinated by the wreck of the Titanic and his interest in it increased when he met Robert Ballard, 9 who discovered the wreckage of the ship in the 1980s, 10 during the production of The Abyss.9 The filmmaker sought sponsors in Hollywood to carry out an expedition to the site of the shipwreck, without yet having the intention to make a film about the events.11 Later he wrote a sketch for a tape about the Titanic12 and presented it to the executives of 20th Century Fox, 13 who gave the project "green light".
