Steemit Open Mic Week 73: Original Song "Jailbird"

in #openmic7 years ago

This is a song based on a true story about a bird I met named Harriet who was born in a prison yard, fell out of her nest, was saved by an inmate living there, and was then raised and protected by the prisoners from the guards because live animals are considered to be contraband. She was eventually set free, flew back into the prison, and then was set free again...

Thank you @krystle, @soundlegion, @passion-ground, @verbal-d, and @meno for all of your hard work, and to @luzcypher and @pfunk for sponsoring open mic!

Lyrics:

Harriet I need you so before we met time moved too slow
But if they ask you don't exist, it's gonna have to be like this

'cause what we've got is forbidden and we can never tell
We can never tell
Until then we'll keep on living in this living hell, in this living hell

They'll ring your neck until your dead, they'll say I'm crazy in the head
And if I am then that's okay, it's gonna have to be this way

'cause what we've got is forbidden and we can never tell
We can never tell
Until then we'll keep on living in this living hell, in this living hell

Oh Harriet I'll miss you so, but the time has come for you to go
We'll meet again in clearer skies away from all these prying eyes

And what we've got is forbidden and we can never tell
We can never tell
Until then I'll keep on living in this living hell, in this living hell

Nice music and song. You a song writer?

Thanks, and yes!

It must surely be a tribute to the resilience of the human spirit that even persons in the hell of the prison hold on a bird and let it free
