This is a daily blog which was supposed to be published yesterday, but due to issues with my internet, I couldn't publish it yesterday, hence publishing it today.
This is an effort to provide some information on Five selected famous personalities born on this day.

1. Charles Dickens
Charles Dickens was an English writer and social critic and author of well known novels like A Tale of Two Cities and Oliver Twist.
He is regarded as the greatest novelist of Victorian era(British Queen, Victoria's reign).
Some of his other popular works include A Christmas Carol, Great Expectations, The Old Curiosity Shop, The Cricket on the Hearth, The Haunted Man.
Besides writing, Dickens was known for the social activities such as children's rights, their education and other social reforms.
2. Puyi
Puyi was the last emperor of China and final ruler of the Qing dynasty.
He was made the emperor of Manhukuo state was formed in 1932 by Japan after it occupied that.
But, when the People's Republic of China was formed in 1949, Puyi was imprisoned as prisoner of war as as People's Republic of China was a result of Sino-Japanese war in 1945.
3. Tony Tan
Tony Tan is a Singapore politician and was the 7th President of Singapore from 2011 to 2017.
Prior to becoming Prime Minister Tony Tan has served as member of parliament from 1979 till 2006 and was Minister of Defence, Finance Minister, Minister of Arts and Minister of Trade and Industry along with being Deputy Prime Minister from 1995 to 2005.
4. John Deere
John Deere was an American blacksmith and founder of Deere & Company which mainly produces agricultural equipment.
Deere & Company is one of the largest companies in the world.
He sold his first invention, an steel plow in 1838 and that became a commercial success.
Deere & Company was founded in 1868.
5. Sinclair Lewis
Sinclair Lewis was an American novelist, playwright and short-story writer and was the first writer from American to receive Nobel Prize for Literature in 1930.
His works are regarded as with insightful and critical views of American capitalism and materialism between wars.
Some of his works include The Job: An American Novel, Free Air, Arrowsmith, Kingsblood Royal.
Thank you for reminding us of some of the great characters of history. It reminded me I must read Sinclair Lewis as I have read most of the other great American novelists. I think most people in the UK have read Charles Dickens. I particularly like Bleak House and Nicolas Nickelby, as well as the classics such as Christmas Carol, and Oliver Twist etc.,
