I have one like that. The previous owner said she was "mean" She was just scared. She's starting to get better now though, so I have an idea what kind of tendencies you're talking about. Just give him all the belly rubs and " 'tentions" and they should continue to lessen.

Yeah... its a shame for sure. He is fine around the house and family but unknown large men wearing baseball/trucker style hats and he cowers in the corner.

unfortunately it sounds like it would take someone who looks that stereotype who actually understands dogs to take the time to sit down on the floor and give Lucky time to see for himself that it's ok. That's what I had to do with Nicki when the previous owner had her staked to the middle of the back yard with no cover. I had to sit down on the ground within her range and wait for her to show it was ok.
