Merkel: Africa Worth Taking into account

German Chancellor Angela Merkel draws a positive balance from her trip to Africa. He gave positive cues that Germany not only regard Africa as a continent that is constantly shaken by crises.

The capital of Nigeria's capital, Abuja, is 30 km from the city center. But month after month the distance is decreasing. The land between the airport and the city center has all sold. Abuja is the fastest growing city in Africa.

In the capital of Kenya and Angola one can also see economic growth in every corner. Everywhere there is development and besides the slums, which are still there, one can also see the initial cues of prosperity.

It is still a developing country, said Hermann Rodler, a member of the board of directors of Nokia / Siemens telecommunications companies, but: "Now the market will be divided, whosoever will not participate, will have difficulties facing established market players and to get a market share adequate."

Rodler was included in the economic delegation that the Chancellor brought to Africa. The main purpose of Merkel's visit is to open the door of the economy. The message: "The German economy, I can tell you, has a vested interest in closer cooperation."

How far the offer is in the individual case, is evident in Angola. Merkel promised Angola to buy a German patrol boat to guard its coastal zone. The existence of criticism of such arms business is not recognized by Merkel. Angola needs stability, says the Chancellor. And the aim is that regional conflicts can also be calmed by regional troops. The German bid, to be present more economically stronger in Africa, was greeted with great interest in the three countries. Kenyan President Kibaki says his country needs more investment than Germany.

Great attention to the visit of the German Chancellor is also evident from media coverage. Press conferences are mostly broadcast live, on radio and on television. As Merkel speaks at the University of Nairobi, the hall is full to the last seat. The students made it clear to Germany what they expected. That is so that their country can stand on its own feet.

"Germany imports our coffee. And it's good quality coffee. But the coffee is not processed here but in Germany. There is no added value in our country, the added value is in Germany, "one student told the Chancellor.

The problem is, from the point of view of many German businessmen, there is no law enforcement in the African countries that are booming economy. Chancellor Merkel also does not allow critical themes to be left untouched. It demands firm action against corruption. It demands transparency in the tender offer. Merkel also stressed the importance of respecting human rights and freedom of expression.
