The Olympics (Rio 2016) - hope for humanity or a demonstration of the opposite?

in #olympics8 years ago (edited)

I watched the opening ceremony of the Olympics live this morning . Well, I watched snippets of it. I'm too interested in using my time effectively rather than sitting on the couch wasting precious hours that could be spent in more productive pursuits.

While seeing the athletes proudly waving flags (I missed seeing the well-oiled Tongan muscle-man flag bearer as I had switched off well before that. Thank you to Yahoo mail for informing me of this situation - knowing about it improves my life how?) I thought how close-knit we are as a human race. All that wonderful diversity (except no fat people - discrimination right there) of black, brown, white, yellow and various religions too. Male, female, gay, straight and possibly transgender too. Even some people with obvious disabilities. All inclusive, except for the lack of overweight people. I was keeping an eye out for the chunkier ones but I mustve blinked at the wrong times because I missed them.

But still, watching the ceremony gave me the warm fuzzies and I started to think the New Agers were right in drumming and humming for world peace. Perhaps we could all one day get along. That maybe NASA werent seriously deluded in taking both males and females to Mars (I think one or the other - but not both. Did they not ever read the book "Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus"?).

But then I hopped on my computer and was swiftly reminded that I live in a world where I cant allow my children to walk to the shops or the park or to school without me. I did all those things growing up in the 70s and from my experiences growing up in a tropical paradise reported to be "the happiest place on earth", I watch my children like a hawk. But if the world was only female I would not have any such fear and they would be free to be free.

Before the Olympics even started there have been muggings (dont think any were by women), and even a murder by a Russian official ( a male, killing 2 male muggers).

And the cause of all these unpleasantries - all the evils of this world (war, rape, torture, incest, pornography, abortion, serial killing, mass murder etc)? They all boil down to one thing - testosterone. If I was male I would opt for chemical castration so I could think and behave like a woman. Because I want a safe world for children to grow up in. Not a creepy world where I'm too scared to put the rubbish bins out at night.

let the games begin!

Very interesting point of view.
I do agree that chubby people are broadly discrimminated against in our world.
I dont agree that defending yourself or others against muggers is murder.
Enjoy the games :)

he disarmed the mugger, then pulled him into his car and shot him dead point blank range. In Australia he would be charged for murder as he used excessive force. He didnt need to kill the guy he was already disarmed and could have just been shot in the leg, for instance.

Hmmm
Yeah after they are disarmed it gets murky.
It would depend on the rest of the circumstances.
Not enough info now for me to judge thos one then.

Wow...all the evils in this world caused by testosterone? That's an incredibly inconsistent viewpoint you have there. You claim, on one hand, that fat people are unfairly discriminated against. Yet, on the other hand, you make an absurd blanket statement that all men who act like men are the cause of all the world's problems. That's major stereotyping and discrimination.

It's also completely unfounded and ridiculous to assume that a world filled with women would be free of problems. That's absolutely absurd.

I'm sorry, I just completely disagree with your premise. I started off with you, but then you took a turn for crazy town. I just can't make that trip.
