RE: What it means to live off grid, advantages and disadvantages

in #offgrid5 years ago

Excellent post. We have been in the OffgridLife (Beta) Planning stage for about 20 years now... saving up to install our solar system at the cabin on Lake Superior... and mostly doing research on batteries.... Why has it taken so long ? When we looked at the costs we realized we needed to work a few more years. We ended up buying a place outside the city and planted hundreds of trees to recreate the Forest that was once here. Now we live in a house surrounded by a pine and spruce forest we planted..... and working our way to Net-zero in Suburbia.

That sounds awesome. We've been off-grid now for almost 7 years. We're in the Ozarks of Arkansas on 10 acres that buts up against the Ozark National Forest.

I’d like to have more land but we are close to the Rideau River and can walk over with the kayaks, snow shoes or cross country skis and go for miles on the water.
