When you are working in one of the most remote places on earth, yes one of the last bastions of freedom. No help is on the way when your truck breaks an axle.
(sorry it's so small, I didn't take the photo, I'm the guy in the blue shirt whose head sticking up. 2012)
Well, to be real, no help is on the way for any reason, no police, fire or ambulances could get here within 4 or 5 hours, maybe a helicopter if it's a medical emergency provided you got a satellite phone to call them, which of course we did but never needed it.
So one of the trucks in front of most of the other vehicles broke an axle. It's one busted, overgrown lane of road that probably wasn't used in 5 years or more, it's the nature of the logging and tree planting industry. Which is just how I like it and I hope to own a big piece of it by this time next year, like really big, 200+ acres.
No tow trucks could come, certainly not the same day. They'd have to send something seriously stronger than a tow truck. So us rugged tree planters had to muscle up and move it our selves or lose a day of work which was the last thing we wanted.
After a hard day of 12 hours of touching your toes with 30 kilos on your body I couldn't even stay awake long enough to get back to camp. That's me on the right.
Even the cute girls could smile while lugging their gear to the work site, not even 4x4's can drive here, lots of hiking just to get to the place that will make us money, lots of money.
If I had this body (minus the burned tan) I would have made much more but hey, he was a forest fire fighter the rest of the summer after the trees were planted.
Off grid life is the best life. It's well worth it if you got the the spirit to be free.
Great post bro.
work hard for success...
That is so hard for the girls, nice story :)
The girls actually did better than most of the men, seriously. It's not just strength it's mentality that that makes a true winner. In ever way when when it comes to these types of jobs. I was average, I totaled about 55,000 trees and they totaled well over 70k and much better. They were pretty much all devout Christians. haha, really.
Sounds like a mega fun adventure. Few better things than going off grid!
