Hi Hive! Jam here, an excited community newbie introducing myself.

in #ocd3 years ago

“Jam? Is that the colored hair, poker-faced Chinese-looking short girl?” Asked anyone who at one point saw me but didn’t get the chance to know my name.

Yes, that sums up who I am, physically. But who is Jam other than colored hair, slanted eyes and one who should have taken a good amount of Cherifer?

We are all experience collectors. Delightfully, we get to select the type of experiences we hoard in life.

So, what about Jam? I am a paradox best illustrated in the type of experiences I collect.

I love to travel to beaches, rivers and springs, trek in mountains, canyoner in waterfalls, cliff dive, wake board and rappel. It is my greatest desire to be able to try all kinds of extreme adventures and of every type. I seek that natural high. In fact, to set an example, I’ve tried several types of rappelling: wall rappelling, building rappelling, waterfalls rappelling and I am very wishful that someday I get to try helicopter rappelling. I have a bucket list of extreme sports to try yet I also identify myself as a home buddy with an unathletic physique and a book worm. Staying at home with a good book can be rejuvenating for me too.

I can be free-spirited on my travels but analytical on other aspects. For instance, I will plan or would want to know the itinerary of a travel adventure. If it does not go as scheduled, you’ll still see me enjoy the day or search ways to find it fun. If something does irk me, you won’t see it on my face if I choose to hide it anyhow, thus the poker-face.

Music and Art always amazes me. A good talk on current events or discussions about Harry Potter, Dexter’s Laboratory, Sponge Bob or Scooby Doo can be just as interesting. Far better than who the latest divorcee is or who has a bigger insured bum in the entertainment industry anyway.

I am sometimes a non-conformist conservative with liberated beliefs. A spiritual person with bright blue hair. The silent chameleon in the group who will dye one’s hair from blue to green due to boredom. My list can go on but, simply put, I am reliably an irony.

My putting up with familiarity, routines and the conventional is innate. It is also natural for me though to be curious with the unusual, irregular and any encounters filled with learning. This is where my life is most directed. I believe that what life wants us to do is learn. When we do not learn, situations in our lives tend to repeat until we do.

I wish to share with you anything I learned from books I’ve read, travels which due to the pandemic crisis can be very few these days, if any, to literally just about anything. Learning can be as deep as getting it from life experiences to as shallow as obtaining insights from cartoons. Despite how casual it can get, I hope there is always a takeaway for us all.

This curiosity in learning led me here through @nikkabomb and @kimshinimba who shared about their Hive experiences. I am so excited to learn and, in the process, impart learning. I’m happy to be given this opportunity to join the Hive Community. May our journeys be filled with learning!

Welcome to Hive @thelearningjam! 😃 Your description of yourself out on travels reminds a lot of how I also like to know (and plan) our itineraries, tho with how it's been almost 2 years since my last outing, i guess I'm grown just a little rusty 😅 Hope you find it to be an enjoyable journey into the communities here, warm greetings from @dbuzz, cheers! 🥂

Hi @ilovewintergem! Thank you so much for the warm welcome. I'm glad to meet someone as like minded as I am in terms of travels. Pandemic has really dampen travels but I'm sure there are still many ways to have fun. I'm indeed excited to enjoy hive. I already feel it as a welcoming community. :)

Welcome to hive @thelearningjam...

Hello @thelearningjam! This is @traciyork from the @ocd (Original Content Decentralized) curation team. We noticed you shared your first post here on Hive and introduced yourself to the community - congratulations and welcome!

Speaking of community, we have many different ones here on the blockchain, devoted to all kinds of interests. Here's a link so you can check them all out - Hive Communities. Based on what you've said, I think you'll enjoy these to start off with -

Also, as Hive can sometimes be quite confusing, the newly launched Newbies Guide should be helpful to you, as it is a growing repository of useful and easy to understand posts about how the Hive ecosystem works. For instance, there's a post in the collection called 3 things Newbies should do in their first week on Hive that you might find helpful.

Please be aware that Hive is a bit different from other social media platforms since you are monetizing your blog, so it is important not to include content that you don't own without sources (and it shouldn't exceed 50% of the post). For more information, check this post - Why and How People Abuse and Plagiarise by hivewatchers.

I'm sure @nikkabomb and @kimshinimba will continue to help you as you begin your Hive journey, but if you have any questions, feel free to hop into the OCD Discord server and we'll do our best to answer them, and again welcome to Hive!

@lovesniper thank you so much for the welcome and the recommendations. I've subscribed it all. Thank you too for the links and the guide. It will truly help me. :)

You're very welcome, @thelearningjam - happy Hiving! 😊
