A company from the big city polluted our major source of water, it was an heartbreaking situation, before the village got to know, it was already too late, our lives was under treat, the existence of my village was questioned, we had no water, food, hospital... how do we survive?
It was big question that I had no answer to, this situation tasked so many elders of my village including my father who was an High chief, so many people died, our street was a walking dead town, dead bodies would be seen everywhere, it looked like God had turned his back on us, what could a poor village like mine do?
Some people believed our village had offended the gods and he strikes with this deadly disease, some people tried making sacrifices to seek the face of the gods but the gods on this cant help us. By the time i was was four years, my mum already had a female child, she named her Adaora, I loved my junior sister so much that I could do anything for her, the painful thing was when my sister got the disease, I saw her as she pooed and vomited, she sweats as she high fever ever night, i could see my mother just giving her salt and water to drink, we could not afford any medicine, I was weak and helpless, my little sister dying right in front of me and I could not do anything; two weeks later my sister died, she was buried in the bush because my mother could not stand seeing her child grave everyday of her life.
When the whole situation was getting out of control, the government people came to our village, they brought medication from the government but to our biggest surprise, they decided to be beast among humans as they sold government drugs at an high price that so many people could not afford. This went on and on for days, weeks and month until when the situation became the talk of all news paper across the country that the NGO decided to step in and help a small village going on extinction.
After a long time of our village battling with the cholera outbreak, with the help of the NGO, the whole situation was calmed as they helped by building us borehole and digging well for us to get other source of water.
