AN INHERITANCE WORTH MORE THAN GOLD

In early 2019, January precisely, I moved to a new city where I had the singular opportunity of living with an old family friend. Before this time I have only heard stories about her but eventually met her sometime in 2015. When I arrived, She gave me a very warm welcome and didn't mind my hefty luggages. She was clearly happy to have me around.

She lived in an expensive and affluent estate. She sent her chauffeur to pick me up at the bus station and immediately we drove into the estate, I was in complete awe. It was magnificent. It was filled with beautiful flowers and trees and I couldn't help but notice how organised the said estate was. It left me in a state of total awe.

She was quite well to do, however you wouldn't know this if you weren't told because she was so humble. She didn't even have a house help, but she took out time from her busy schedule to prepare meals so that I didn't go hungry.

In all, she was a stellar being. She was kind, considerate, peaceful, loving, caring and supportive, a true epitome of Christianity. Even when I exceeded time I had told her I was going to leave, she clearly told me that I wasn't in her way and that I should take all the time I want.

Fast forward to December 2019, the cold icy hands of death snatched her away. She had a cardiac arrest. It was sudden, traumatizing, excruciating and one of the most difficult situations in my life. She was only 48years old when she passed on. Her family let me have this painting that was hung in her room as my own inheritance.

This was painted by an artist that goes by the name "HORNING"

It was more than just a piece of art for me. Looking closely at it, I see serenity, beauty and love; all the values that consistently vented out of her . She became a mother to me in a strange land. That's why this painting is worth more than precious stone to me.

Each time I set my eyes on it, I'm immediately reminded of such an immense impact she had on my life and my value system in such a short period of time. She touched all the lives around her positively but this is just my own story.

She continues to live on in our hearts...
