Today many have forgotten the importance of simplicity and humility; before continuing it is necessary to make clear that, in this case, simplicity is not synonymous with an easy or plain personality, but with truth and naturalness. That is, that someone moves with the quality of simplicity mean that he or she does so with transparent and pure behavior.
Simplicity makes us great because it shows without make up what we are since it is the most efficient way to reflect what we unconsciously hide under our skin. However, we tend to avoid it and complicate the process by which others come to know us.
Some define simplicity as "the celebration of the small". In other words, those who are simple are able to enjoy the little things. He/she also appreciates them. He has neither his expectations nor his ambitions set on something too high, a mountain too high to cover happiness. Therefore, the first person to be favored with simplicity is the one who holds it.
Simplicity is powerful. Simplicity is conquered from the synthesis of experience and wisdom. Simplicity is natural, it is easy, it is kind, it has no pretensions. It often happens that great lessons of life, full of wisdom, are born from simple concepts but which, paradoxically, are difficult to reach and even more difficult to understand completely.
"Perhaps the simplest things are the ones that are most difficult to see. Sometimes, it takes a while to see what is right in front of you" Murakami
Now I want to share with you this little story of reflection:
Once upon a time, there was a highly intelligent scientist who discovered the art of reproducing himself so perfectly that it was impossible to distinguish the original from the reproduction.
One day the scientist found out that he was looking for death. Invaded by fear, he decided to make twelve copies of himself. Death, confused, did not know how to find out which of the thirteen scientists before him was the original. He left them all alone and went to meditate.
Death soon returned, for she was an expert in human nature and came up with an interesting strategy. She went back to the scientist and said: "I recognize that you are a genius because you have achieved such perfect reproductions of yourself that you have really confused me; however, I have discovered that your work has a defect, a unique and minuscule defect".
The scientist, feeling discovered and a little offended, jumped and shouted: "Impossible, where is this defect", "precisely here, in his Ego, in the lack of simplicity and humility", and death replied while he took the true scientist and carried him away.
In our daily life, we often allow vanity, pride, or arrogance to win out. We have to serve God, but not with the purpose of collecting the favor later, but with the free love of children, with a true spirit of simplicity and humility.
Recognizing that what we are or what we have is not only the fruit of our effort or our talent, but it comes from God and from the help that others have given us.
Genuine simplicity and humility invite us to recognize the immensity of what we have received and how little we have appreciated.
