Letter to Devora

One Thursday morning Devora went to her mailbox and there was only one letter. She took it and looked at it before opening it, and noticed that it did not have any stamps or postage. Just her name and address. She read:

Dear Devora, "I'm going to be in your neighborhood today, Thursday afternoon, and I'd like to see you. I love you always, Jesus.

His hands were shaking as he placed the card on the table. Why would God want to visit me if I am no one special? He was happy, but he remembered that he had nothing to offer him, so he went to his cupboard and found it empty. I have nothing to offer Jesus

I have to go to the supermarket and buy something for dinner" She took her wallet containing $40, "well, I can buy bread and sausages at least", she thought aloud as she put on her coat and closed the door. She bought French bread, turkey ham, and a carton of milk which left her with only $4. She felt good as she walked home with her humble purchase under her arm.

"Miss, please, can you help me? Devora had been so immersed in her dinner plans that she hadn't noticed the figure curled up on the sidewalk. A man dressed in rags.

"Look miss, I don't have a job, I'm living on the streets, I'm freezing and I'm very hungry and if you could help me I would be very grateful.

Devora looked at him. He was dirty and smelly, so he thought that if he really wanted to work, he would have gotten something.

So he said, "Lord, I would like to help you, but I am poor too. All I have is some bread and ham, I will have a special guest for dinner tonight and I was thinking of giving him this to eat.

"That's okay, I understand. Thank you anyway. He said.
The man left for the alley. She watched him walk away and felt a lot of pain in her heart, so she called out to him.

Lord, wait. The man stopped, as she ran towards him. Why don't you take this food, I can serve something else to my guest," she said as she handed him the bag from the supermarket.

Thank you. Thank you very much, miss. And Devora could see that she was shivering with cold. "You know, I have another coat at home, take this one," she said as she put it on her shoulders.

She returned home smiling and without her coat or food to offer her guest. She was happy to have helped this man but became discouraged as she approached the door of her house, thinking that she had nothing to offer the Lord Jesus.

When he put the key in the lock I noticed another envelope in his mailbox.

How strange. Usually, the mailman doesn't come twice on the same day," he thought as he picked up the envelope and there would be:

Dear Devora: It was so nice to see you again. Thank you for the food and thank you also for the beautiful coat you gave me. As much as you did it to one of my little ones, you did it to me. Love you always, Jesus"
