"The Fisherman", 35mm Film Ilford FP4

Hello everyone, I'm Joao Gasparian, I work as a camera assistant, camera operator and visual poet. I develop my work with 35mm black and white photography. My search is in street photography, landscapes, flanking, people. I started to photograph more closely, after seeing a magazine article that talked about the letter that the photographer Sergio Larrain wrote to his nephew teaching the techniques of photography and how that passion was in his life. Sergio Larrain was a photographer from the beginning of the last century, born in Chile, where he wandered with his camera through the streets of Valparaiso or the islands of Chloé. I learned from Sergio as well as his nephew. And he goes around inspired by being supplied by the streets of my city, Rio de Janeiro. Then, as he tells in the letter, he writes that after the first trips to photograph, Sergio, encourages his nephew to travel aimlessly, to get the first bus and to get off at any station. This way, I went around aimlessly, in an opportunity that I had to travel to Portugal.

Without a destination, I went to Morocco and traveled through the mountains and ancient cities. From this experience, I made my first series of photos. "Around Maroc".

About photography, I see the incessant search for the instant. Unveil invisibilities and be surprised by chance, by fate. When I go out with a camera on my chest to see the world, I feel the peace of being willing to be surprised by something ...
