Finally - Back To The Peak District!

Nothing beats getting out and about, something that I have neglected to do for far too long. But have finally forced myself out, which was very very worth it.

Today started of a little bit chilly, with a frost covering the ground as far as the eye could see, I thought, today will be a good day.

My girlfreind and I decided to go over to Castleton and walk on Mam Tor, but as we headed over that way, I said to her, why not do Surprise View instead, we wasn't too far from the carpark and decided to do this, as it's somewhere I had only visited once before and hadn't really explored this area of the peaks.

I can see why it's called "Surprise" view, as the views are epic, but even more so, we were surprised (excuse the pun) by the appearance of a Stag. I quickly got my camera out of my bag and took a few shots, what a beautiful creature this is.

We continued our walk, and saw a load of rocks we wanted to get to, it looked like an island if you can imagine the place full of water, so we headed over there and clambered our way up on to them. Little did we know that there was an actual path from the carpark all the way up, although if we had taken that path, we wouln't have seen the stag.

The views are breathtaking from up there, with views of Higgar Tor, Carl Wark, Burbage South Edge and Burbage South Valley, with the cool January air circulating in your lungs, what a great place to be.
The only down side was that I wanted to take the drone up, however, it was way too windy for drone flying, so just stuck to shooting with my Sony.

The above picture is from Mill Stone Edge with a beautiful view through Hope Valley.

While we were enjoying the view, I took out my little Pocket Rocket 2 stove, and made a coffee, this was one of the best drinks in the best locations I've had, and managed to christen my new cup too lol.

Heading back down we passed a massive rock called "Mother Cap", and I also think I found a dinosaur fossil, or at least a giant turtle fossil, what do you think it is?

We'd not walked too far when we got back to the car, but we were both hungry, so out came the stove and I cooked some Bacon, Sausage (heck chicken sausage) and beans, it doesn't look anything special, but it tasted sooo good.

We then decided to go and have a little wander around Castleton, although almost everything was closed, we didn't stop too long, headed up Winnats Pass then home.

I really hope you like this post, it's been great getting out and about again.

Thanks again.

Darren.

Beautiful shots... especially of the stag

Thank you, it was so good to be out, the stag definitely made it even more worthwhile.

You're most welcome!
And I can totally understand the feeling to be out again... :)

Those are lovely shot. Nice shot taken

Wow... Just wow. These are gorgeous shots that I'm sure still don't capture the breathtaking beauty of the places you saw! I'm a little jealous you got to experience the real deal, but thank you SO much for sharing these with us, truly breathtaking!

Thanks ever so much, it is beautiful out there, I'm hoping for a lot more shots to come in the near future.

The Stag looks really imposing. Were you really so close to it or did you use a zoom function?

Hi, I was pretty close to it, although a small wire fence seperated us, probably around 30-40 feet from where I was. I still zoomed in a bit, but only had my 24-104mm on.

Yay! 🤗

A surprise indeed! Gorgeous stag!
What's interesting is that I am sitting next to a bowl of baked beans and looking at the:

Bacon, Sausage (heck chicken sausage) and beans

😂 Doesn't happen often...

Great post mate and what a lucky beggar you are for getting a stag! And even luckier he didn't charge...

Glad he didn't charge, I've been told they can be quite deer lol

Manually curated by ackhoo from the @qurator Team. Keep up the good work!

The first image if the deer is amazing! And I always think food tastes so much better when cooked outdoors even when it's crappy food.

By the way do you want to pin this on https://pinmapple.com? Perhaps we can drop it a bit more love

btw @darrenflinders if you can, try pinning your post on Pinmapple earlier as we can only curate posts when it's on Pinmapple. And due to the way curation works on Hive, any post over a day old reduces curation rewards for curators so people may be less inclined to support it (we have whale supporters who work that way)

Nature though complex has a way of simplifying things and clearing our heads

Hey Darren! Awesome hiking post and great photography.

This puts me in the mood to get some posts up of my own hiking I do with my family on the Silvermine Route in Cape Town, South Africa!

As for that turtle, I don't know, perhaps just a bit of "Pareidolia" going on there. It certainly has the shape of a turtle, but that's perhaps just a coincidence.

That lunch is great if a person knows food!

I see you have some amazing photography on your profile! Great job!
If I wanted to use an image of yours, could I ask you in a comment and credit you in the post?

Those are some STUNNING photos man,

I have never been to the Peak District before. I'm gonna have to make a visit there and do some wild camping.

Thanks for the inspiration!
