We traveled for nearly three hours, changing trains and subways.
I hope it's worth it! my nephew said, falling asleep again, lulled by the train.
The first thing we did upon our arrival in Bath Spa was to eat. I was taken aback and pleasantly surprised when the cashier spoke to me in my mother tongue.
Tucked away from the busy British capital, Bath Spa is a destination for all. It has museums, modern shops and pubs, great architecture and lovely parks. The main attractions are the Roman Baths, the Fashion Museum and the Victoria Art Gallery.
We were also charmed by the city itself. Strolling through the streets, we've found some unique shops. I liked the most a clothing store showcasing old Singer sewing machines and a whimsical toy store.
The Avon River that goes through Bath Spa can be crossed over on a medieval bridge. On its sides there are in fact shops, restaurants and houses. I thought all the bridge is covered in some way, but an open street leads you on the other side.
I loved the fact that the two side of the bridge are very different. Seeing one of them made us really curious what was on the other side. The river passes under the bridge forming an interesting waterfall. It may have a practical purpose or just an aesthetic one.
The way the british repurposed the old, worldwide famous, telephone boxes facinated me. There were some with free wifi and ATMs. Communications have come a really long way.
Our way back home was not without excitement. We were on platform 2. The train for London came just on time. We managed to get through the crowd and find some seats. The metal wheels started to move and a distorted voice welcomed us through the speakers. Ten minutes have passed and it dawned on me. The broken voice was chanting stations I didn't recognize. We were on the wrong train and travelling who knows where! There was no time to wait. We hoped off at the first stop, searched a return way and bought another round of tickets. Fun stuff! Finally, the right train came and we made friends with a rugby fan girl. She was pleasant to talk to and joke around.
We arrived late at home, tired from the fresh memories we've made that day.
