Hello Steemians,
With the dreary winter weather here in NZ, I though it key to keep myself in bright spirits by reflecting on one of the great summer days out fishing and diving in the Bay of Plenty, NZ earlier this year (FEB), and what better way to do this, than to share it with the great Steemit community we have here!
The Mission –
Collect as many wild scallops as we could for the bbq we were having that night. Also, to impress our mates with the bountiful harvest we had wrestled from Poseiden himself.
Where –
Motiti Island. This flat island is located about 10kms off the south eastern coast of Tauranga in the Bay of Plenty. It's mostly farm land and there is also an airstrip, the population is about 30 odd people.
How –
We got there on my pals boat, a 4.5 metre alloy composite trailor boat
What's there? -
This island offer some great terrain for diving. Nice shallow sandy bays, great habitat for scallops and also rocky shoreline which is pearly for crayfish.
We had perfect weather for the 30 minute commute to the island, and after kitting up in quick succession, were were soon jumping over the side!
That's my dive float that attaches to my collection bag, it makes it easier to haul up what we catch from the depths.
After we had used up all the air in our dive tanks, we emerged with an impressive catch of scallops!
The Scallops inside the shells were huge, and they tasted f#@king fantastic too!
We cooked them in garlic butter over a hot plated bbq - there is nothing better!
All in all a great 1/2 day out!. with me catching my biggest red rock lobster ( Crayfish ) ever which was heard about all night :)
Until next time - Keep steeming!
OMG that's perfect! Dive to get the scalops and after that cook them....!!!
Yep, I love them, garlic butter, salt and pepper
Yes, just garlic, salt and pepper = perfect!
