The weakness hit Sister Klara strong. She nearly fell off the horse. She would have had it not been for Prince Finn’s arms around her.

“I won’t have you trying to escape now,” he growled as he steadied her.

“I am unwell,” she replied weakly, not even irritated with his attitude.

“We ride! We must find Wren and Kevin!”

Her vision became fuzzy. Then she saw Sister Vasana hovering before them. But the horse kept going, so Prince Finn hadn’t seen her.

<What happened?> Klara asked silently.

<The King’s jealousy has finally been cured,> she replied to her mind.

<As he should be! But he will not harm you. I will not let him.>

<And Wren?>

Sister Klara nodded slightly as the vision cleared.

“Are you okay?” Prince Finn asked.

“Your father has killed your mother,” she said.

“What do you mean?!” he demanded. “My mother has been dead for years!”

She shook her head. “The woman who birthed you, not the woman who raised you.”

“Who?!” he demanded. Then he stroked her arms gently. “You mean Sister Vasana, don’t you? She was my mother.”

Klara nodded.

“We will take a break, here,” the Prince said. “Assist me, guard!”

A man took Klara from him and helped her to the ground, as another placed a riding cloak beneath her.

“Finn,” she called weakly, looking up at him.

He knelt beside her, then kissed her. “I don’t blame you,” he said. “I know why you did not tell me before. I have never been as angry as I am now.”

“You seem so calm,” she replied.

“Under control,” he murmured, laying next to her, stroking her body.

A group of guards joined them then.

“What have you found?” the Prince demanded. “Where are the others?”

“We split up when the trail split. I took a group into the woods where the woman was with Kevin. The woman used magick on us and killed several of the guard!”

The Prince’s face contorted with rage. “Fool’s errand! Why?!”

“Because you were selfish,” Klara replied looking at him. “Let them go. They are of no threat to you.”

“Guards, leave us! Return to the convent! We will catch up in awhile,” the Prince commanded.

“Yes, Your Highness,” the captain replied and directed the guard to continue back towards the convent..

“They won’t completely leave,” he said, looking at Klara again.

“Love me, Finn,” she requested, looking into his eyes. “You are upset. Loving me will calm you.”

He covered her mouth with his and pressed his knee between hers, parting her legs gently. He untied his breeches and lifted her skirts. He kissed between her legs, then she felt his tongue run around her point of desire.

She moaned.

“You asked for me,” he murmured. “I appreciate that.” His tongue traced the folds of her desire, down and up, then centering on her hard pink pearl. She moaned again.

“Be my Queen,” he uttered before returning to pleasuring her.

Sister Klara felt the tremor overtake her as she shook with pleasure.

He moved up, entering her body as his mouth reached hers. “Be my Queen,” he repeated. “You have seen me at my best and my worst. You tell me what I need to hear. You will marry me.”

“No, Finn,” she replied breathlessly as he thrust deeply into her. “I cannot marry you.”

“That’s ridiculous,” he said, speeding up, stroking her urgently. “Of course you’ll marry me!”

She shook her head, unable to reply as he finished. “I carry your child,” she said. “But I am not your partner. I cannot love you.”

“I command you to marry me!” he said angrily.

“I will not go with you,” she replied. “If you will force me to marry, you will do it at the convent. I will not go to Castel Velantia with you.”

“Damn you! What good’s being the next King if I cannot even get my chosen woman to marry me?!”

“I have no doubt you will return to make me carry another child for you. I cannot stop you doing that. I also cannot stop you forcibly removing me from this mountain, but know that my heart will break if you do that.”

“Damn you, Klara!”

He got up.

“Come on. We need to get back to the convent. I have to talk to my father about my mother!”

Sister Misty was surprised to hear the sound of hooves thundering into the courtyard so soon. She went out to watch, surprised to see the handsome dark-skinned man dismounting. She blushed before he looked at her.

He handed his mount to Sister Dawn who took the horse to be fed and watered. Then he came over to Misty who felt the flush on her cheeks grow warmer.

“You wanted something?” she asked.

“I wanted to ask you to come with me for a walk,” he replied.

“Of course, m’lord.” She smoothed her fuchsia habit and accompanied him. “Did you need me to show you something? I know all the plants.”

“I want to get to know you,” he said gently, taking her hand in his dark one.

She suddenly felt quite shy, even as her body warmed to him. “I’m Sister Misty.”

“I know. I’m Chester, Captain of the King’s Guard. I would marry you if you would have me.”

“M’lord!” she cried. “I am just a Sister!”

“And ‘just a Sister’ is exactly what I want. I haven’t lived an honorable life, but I have an idea that could get you and Sister Klara out of the clutches of the King and the Prince as long as necessary.”

“You speak treason! The King will have your head!”

“Not if we’re quiet about it. Sister Wren has escaped with Kevin. And you and I can escape with Sister Klara. You know how the Prince treats young women like you. I’m surprised he hasn’t noticed you yet.”

“I… I am very shy. I kept out of the way and never met him.”

“Fortunate for you.”

“I have heard things though… like how the King treated my dear Sister Vasana, dead this day by his hand.”

“How!”

“Apparently, he tried to remove the effects of him ordering the guard to rape her.”

“I am shamed to admit that I was one of the ones who had to abuse her,” Chester said. “I had no choice.”

“He didn’t want a dark-skinned child out of Sister Vasana. You are the one he was afraid would father his son… so, he gave her crampweed, but at a lethal dose. She didn’t have a chance!”

He looked crestfallen at that news. “I should have resisted the King on this more. Perhaps your sister would still be alive. I am not worthy of you, Sister.”
