The old masters methods are far less mysterious than some people try to make it sound. Many are well documented and the knowledge was definitely not preserved by only few in their ivory towers.
Thus, there is a wide variety of possibilities... like the German painter Leibl said: you can paint with anything that sticks ;-)
For me simplicity was finally an important key to success :-)
