Hiking to the Kjeragbolten rock!

in #norway7 years ago (edited)

I would like to share some of the top things I have experienced in Norway. One of the top things you easily could do is a hike to the Kjeragbolten rock which is located close to Stavanger, not that far from the Pulpit rock actually. Its an experience like no other and obviously a very famous place for all Norwegians and tourists.

And its easy to do. If your in Norway, just do it!

I wanted to write about it, because, its basicly pretty easy to get there. As long as you are in South-Norway. you dont need an expensive Guide or anything. Just get hold of a buss or car, and off you go. These pictures are from me being there in July. And it was pretty cold, and that high up in the mountain the weather is unstable you should dress properly.

How to get there:
Google the destination, ask the tourist office, or any human being walking in the street ;)
The easiest way of getting there is by renting a car, or buss from Stavanger. It should take a couple of hours (2-3) to reach the starting point. Just remember these three things:

  1. check the weather forecast
  2. Check the weather forecast
  3. Check the weather forecast

The weather that high up can be very devious.

When you reach the starting point, you will se a nice restaurant and a big parking lot. You can see the restaurant in this picture behind the people hiking.

The path is marked, and goes in the rugged and beautiful terrain until you reach the pulpit. Personally, i dont find the pulpit in itself that extraordinary, but its a bit scary to stand on it. but the view into the fjord is quite powerfull.

You will see the amazing rock and gaze out at beautiful Lysefjord.

And did i mention, you are pretty high up

From the starting point, it should take you only 1,5 hours of hiking. And aprox 1 hour back again since your walking down.

Relax, the route is well marked, you dont need map and compass.

Basic Equipment (1 person):
1 sett of wool leggings
1 sett of wool sweater
Wind jacket
Wind trouser

After watching your photos of hiking to norway i am very much fall in love with your norway, thank you so much

Well, beats reading books about motivation and self esteem at least :)

The photo with the rock looks amazing. Maybe for views it should have been first?

thanx, you cant see it on the picture, but its probably 400 meters straight down. you`ve got to almost jump out on the rock, at your own risk obviously :P
