So I have been active on steemit for several weeks and I want to share some of the things that I have learnt so far. These tips are for those who did not have a large fan base or followers before they came to steemit. This is how to grow your account from ground zero. These are some of the things that works for me.
SOCIALIZE
To succeed in steemit you have to socialize like a mad man. You have to follow people and ask them to follow you. There is no need to be shy. Its okay to ask people to follow you.
CREATE QUALITY CONTENT
There is a saying that content is king. Always create content that is worthy of reading. I am not a content creator but I have been working on myself to be better. I hate typos but some how they just manage to sneak into my posts. Value is a matter of perception; make sure that what you are posting is creating some sort of value for your audience.

DO NOT SPAM
People do not like spammers. The other day I was having a chat with a whale and he said that besides flagging, the one thing he hates the most is spamming. Spamming according to him is leaving useless, unrelated or annoying comments. Some people do not even bother to read the post before commenting. In a bid to get followers or be noticed, they just leave some automated comment such as: nice post, thank you, awesome etc. After writing 1000 words, a blogger deserves a little more than that. Just show that you read the post. You can get curation rewards for doing that.

INVITE YOUR FRIENDS TO STEEMIT
I wish all my friends were in steemit. Most of them do not believe in cryptocurrencies and its such a pity. I don't want to press it too much so that it doesn't seem like I have some alterior motive or that steemit is going to give me referral bonus. If all my friends were in steemit, it would be so much fun. I will not need to worry about content. I'll just upload my picture or say 'hi' and the votes will start rolling in.
JUST POST SOMETHING
Sometimes I worry about what to post. I worry that people may not like it. Just post something! Its true that sometimes you will spend a lot of time creating a post and you will earn 0.06$ and other times you will just put up a lousy and funny picture and you will get 7$. This has happened to me. So don't over think it. Just post something.
CHANGE YOUR MOTIVE
If you motive is to make a quick buck you are going to get frustrated. So just have fun. Be true to yourself. Do not be afraid to express yourself. Just put your followers in mind and try to serve them.
LOOK BEYOND THE MONEY
You have to realise that its not about the money. They are quicker, riskier and more profitable ways to make money with cryptocurrencies.

INVEST
Don't cash out your steemdollars unless you need the money. Use it to accumulate steem power. The more steempower you have, the more you can earn from curating and creating content.
BEFRIEND A WHALE
Now this one is very important. Have you noticed that sometimes you will get 24 upvotes and it would be worth $0.15 while some other posts with just 4 upvotes would give you $10. Sometimes you can even get more from curating rewards if you are fishing in the right waters. I will leave the rest to your imagination.
