This last Sunday, somewhere in the Southwestern side of our country, a group of unknown gunmen stormed a church filled with worshippers and killed scores of people. The sky that accompanied the dawn of today in Nigeria is definitely not normal. Our condolences are with the bereaved and we pray for strength for them to be able to bear the loss of their loved ones.
Welcome to a new edition of the STEMng digest.
Who are we?
STEMng is the Nigerian sub-community of the stemsocial community, a community that has been supporting stem authors on the hive blockchain for about four years now. While stemsocial focuses on everyone irrespective of their country, STEMng is specifically for Nigerians. The best stem contents published by Nigerians on the Hive blockchain are highlighted weekly.
Below are the posts that made it into our digest for this week:
Lower abdominal pain is something that is common in both male and females. Our first post for today talks about the possible causes, diagnosis, and treatment available for females who experience lower abdominal pain. If you are a female or a male willing to know more about females and their bodies, give the post a read.
2.@hillaryisidore: The pros and cons of kidney transplant: what you need to know
Over the years, as standards of living keep getting more sophisticated, so also has issues with kidneys been proliferating. Dialysis and kidney transplant have become more popular as a result. Even though kidney transplants has some advantage over dialysis, there are some cons to the procedure itself. If you really want to know more, read the post.
3.@jsalvage: How Animals Survive in extreme Conditions, Science of the adaptation
Featuring as our third selection for this week is a post talking about how living organisms adapt to their environment, especially in extreme conditions. The author talks specifically about some animals with unique adaptative abilities, thus, making it an interesting read.
4.@dancinglockers: Mumps; A mysterious swelling on the cheeks or what?
Here is a post bordering around the health of children. Mumps is characterized by swellings around the ears and it is a pathogenic disease caused my the mump virus, otherwise known as MuV. Just how is this virus transmitted and does mumps have any treatment? Being a viral disease, one can already guess, but the post tells us more.
5.gentleshaid: Birthing Position: When abnormality becomes the norm
Capping our featured post for this week is this post I wrote myself. I can bet many of us will not believe it if told that the position that women take during the process of giving birth is not actually the best. It will even be more unbelievable if I say what we know as the normal position is borne out of some fetish behaviour. So, which position is actually the best for giving birth and why is it that this position is not in use in various hospitals of the world? Head over and feed your curiousity.
Do not forget to give the featured posts/authors your maximum support. Thank you in advance.

I have indeed read about the sad events that happened in Nigeria last week. Do we know anything about the group who has led the attack?
PS: I will try to find the time to read the featured posts I haven't read yet. No guarantee, however (sorry!).
There have been rumours about the group responsible. Initially, everyone thought it has to do with ISWAP or Fulani herders but recent events have said otherwise.
