My love for suguar is extraordinary, I just like taking into my body system something sweet especially when it touches my taste buds.
The taste of every sweet things begins from the mouth and personally anything goes, just make it sweet like sugar. Things like biscuits, chocolate, flavoured yoghurts, breakfast cereals and fizzy drinks make my day.
Not that I dont eat anything apart from sugary things but you know once in love you are always in love.
I have a friend who has been advicing to stop taking too much sugar, sometimes she will ask me for the effects and majorly the most common effect I know is just diabetes. But there is more to it than just diabetes.
From my research, eating too much sugar can make you gain weight, cause fatty liver and can also tooth decay.
Sugar causes tooth decay because it provides easily digestible energy for the bad bacteria in the mouth.
The type of sugars most adults and children in Nigeria eat too much of are free sugars. These are any sugars added to food or drinks. These include sugars in biscuits, chocolate, flavoured yoghurts, breakfast cereals and fizzy drinks. These sugars may be added at home, or by a chef or other food manufacturer. Sugars in honey, syrups (such as maple, agave and golden), nectars (such as blossom), and unsweetened fruit juices, vegetable juices and smoothies. The sugars in these foods occur naturally but still count as free sugars.
Sugar found naturally in milk, fruit and vegetables doesnt count as free sugars. We dont need to cut down on these sugars, but remember that they are included in the total sugar figure found on food labels.
Also, sugar can cause insulin resistance, a stepping stone towards metabolic syndrome and diabetes. Insulin is a very important hormone in the body. It allows glucose (blood sugar) to enter cells from the bloodstream and tells the cells to start burning glucose instead of fat.
You need to know that before sugar enters the bloodstream from the digestive tract, it is broken down into two simple sugars... glucose and fructose.
Glucose and fructose are two different things entirely, glucose can be found in every living cell on the planet and If we dont get it from the diet, our bodies produce it but Fructose cannot be produced by our bodies in any significant amount and there is no physiological need for it. It is only stored in the liver until when needed.
Hence, since fructose can only be metabolized by our liver, we need to take little of it because too much of it overloads the liver forcing it to turn into fats and this can cause serious liver problems such as fatty livers.
Based on my research also, i found out that sugar also causes CANCER.
Due to its harmful effects on metabolism, there has been considerable evidence that high intake of sugar can contribute to cancer.
Therefore, the bottom line here is that i love sugary things and I'm trying to reduce it based on its bad effects, if you are like me start changing today so as to live a healthy strong life.
