A NIGERIAN DREAM

One of the few things one has no control over in the sojourn of this life is where you are born, your country of origin

This is in addition to family, race and skin colour. We all came to reasoning and found ourselves with those things or in those places.

So this is why it always bemuse me when on several occasions I see my compatriots disparaging their country.

In as much as I try to understand the frustrations about how things are in the country which is short of the aspirations of many of us, but then joining foreigners to denigrate your country won't make it go away.

Even if you have alternative passport or visa or whatever, you can't wish away that reality you were born in Nigeria. You just cannot, until you die, that will forever be your identity!

Even Nigerians not born in the country but having either of the parents still have the Nigerian-American, Nigerian-Russian or Nigerian-Ghanian tag attached to their name!

It is what it is and it will forever remain so until the end of time!

So why then are you not proud of that name? Why are you not proud to defend that brand!

There is a yoruba adage which goes "ori bibe ko ni ogun ori fifo" which literally translates to "beheading oneself is not the solution to headache"

Even if the country is in total shambles, agreeing with every dick-and-tom that disparage your country will not in any way makes things better neither will it make you to be accepted as their own.

I am hoping for a Nigerian future where Nigerians will be proud to defend the honor of their fatherland at all times and in all circumstances.

Are you one of those that join foreigners in abusing your country?
