Ogbunike cave is located in Anambra state, southeastern Nigeria. The collection of caves has been used over centuries by local people for whom it has spiritual significance.
A lengthy walkway of 317 steps said to have been constructed by the Anambra state government is located before descending into the valley.
Visitors must remove their shoes before entering the cave as per tradition. Also women in their monthly period are not allowed into the cave.
The main cave has a massive structure of about 5m high, 10m wide and 30m long at the entrance. It has ten tunnels leading to different directions some of which are interconnected.
The immediate environment of the cave is a thick tropical rainforest type of vegetation. The cave is inhabited by large colony of bats of different sizes.
