Art is subjective, but it's also so easy to not be an asshole.
Many artists stop pursuing their craft because of reactions like this. If you put yourself in a position to display a piece or offer it for sale, you're probably really proud of your work. It's hard not to feel a little beaten up when your work doesn't sell and it's so easy to want to throw in the towel when people flat out hate on it.
Art is an attempt to communicate your vision and feelings. So often artists are met with offensive reviews and very rarely are we offered tips for growth. Some people will offer vague words of encouragement like, "practice makes perfect." That's bullshit. You can keep practicing doing something wrong and end up being really good at being bad at something because you didn't have enough guidance.
NFTs are a new medium, to me anyway. I paint on canvas, I do photo and videography; so I came into this thinking, "I'm gonna kill this". That's most definitely not been the same so far.
Having years of experience in other fields, I know that I'm at that early trial and error stage and I'm trying not to get discouraged. It's especially difficult here because the crypto space goes HAM on trolling and insults. It's basically netbanging for people with money. Netbanging is what gang members and wannabe gang members do on social media.
One thing that helps me deal with the crypto haters is realizing their creative experience goes as far as drawing lines on charts and most of them only watch their favorite YouTubers draw charts.
So how the hell am I gonna be offended by some internet troll that has never made or bought art? Nah, fam... We're gonna keep at it because the most important part of being an artist is doing it for your own happiness and freedom to express yourself through whatever medium you choose.
If you ever find yourself on the receiving end of comments like this, just remember that what you think of your art matters most. Just do you.
